Pregnant or not?

Hi everyone,

I'm new here so I'm still figuring things out a bit
I stopped the pill on Jan 8th, so a few days later I got my period. Normally I should be getting my period again this weekend. But since last week I've had occasional twinges in my lower belly, just like what you feel when your period is coming. Also, from the end of last week until now, my nipples have been sensitive; it doesn't really hurt but they feel very sensitive and "different" when I touch them. For the past 3-4 days I've also had a bad taste in my mouth, maybe a bit metallic... And sometimes I feel like I might be pregnant. Or maybe I'm just imagining it since this would be my first pregnancy. Does anyone recognize this? Could I really already be pregnant?
Thanks anyway

Hi Kiki, that's exactly how it started for me too. I had those little pricks in my uterus well in advance, and I immediately thought I might be pregnant because I only ever felt that about 2 days before my period, but this time it's been over a week. The sore nipples were also familiar; I never had them before a period, but I did during my last pregnancy. Took a test and I was pregnant. I didn't have that metallic taste, never have either. So it could definitely be like that; I know plenty of ladies who got pregnant straight after stopping the pill. So it's quite possible, but only a test will confirm it, so I'd say, go ahead and take a test. I got my first positive with an early test; it can be 4 days before your expected date, just in case you can't wait Otherwise, over the weekend if you still haven't had your period. Good luck!

    Hi RJ

It's exciting to hear that it's possible to get pregnant so early. But could it be that I'll get my period anyway because I wouldn't be pregnant for long? Oh, and I sometimes notice I have a slight loss of balance, but it's very mild. I also don't remember if I was regular or not, haha It's all so exciting, right? Oh, and I'd also be a young mom. I'll turn 22 in May Oh, and when could I test? Normally I stop the pill on Tuesday and my period starts on Saturday or Sunday...

It's possible you're pregnant, but it could also be withdrawal symptoms (unfortunately, these can look a lot like early pregnancy signs).
If you just stopped the pill, you can't say for sure that you'll get your period this weekend. Your cycle can vary enormously right now; a 'normal' cycle is between 28 and 35 days. But 40 days right after stopping the pill isn't an exception either!
Of course, nothing stops you from testing, but if I were you, I'd wait until this weekend.
Normally, you don't get your period once you're pregnant, whether early or not. There are exceptions, of course, where some women still bleed during the first 3 months.

But otherwise, I'm crossing my fingers that you turn out to be pregnant! Because that's what we all want
We're starting next month, and I'm your age, almost 21 now, turning 22 around summer. So we're not the only ones who want to get pregnant 'young'

Glad I won't be the only young mom The only one who won't be happy about it is my mom haha. She thinks we haven't been together long enough and that I should save money and blah blah blah, while she herself was only 20 My boyfriend and I have been together for a year already. And he's going with me until the last day, so yeah. I think if you have to take that into account, you should never start. We could break up next month, in 10 years, or never. And he won't get any younger; he's 30. But sometimes he has the spirit of an 18-year-old. He's really my soulmate hehe. Pfff, I hope it's already "the one"

I'll be rooting for you! I'm 27 and my boyfriend is 33! And I think it's true that as men get older, the quality of their sperm decreases. Good luck!!

Exciting, Kiki, it can go either way. But you only know after a positive test, or otherwise a period. I myself didn't take the pill, but besides hearing stories about people who get pregnant right away, I also hear stories about people who get their period for the first time after a long time and who also have all sorts of ailments that resemble pregnancy. My husband is 35, I'm 27. I was pregnant right away both times. So even a "older" man can have good sperm , let's just say that. Good luck!

Nope, my friend is completely convinced that his "seed" is still super high quality, well you know, men and their egars, right
He already has a 3-year-old son who was an accident when he and his ex broke up; she found out she was pregnant. A sweet little boy. And he's totally on board with the idea of a brother or sister. Although he'd rather have a little girl

Mine says he has "super sperm" too!
It's all so exciting, and I also find it nice to hear that several of us are trying to get pregnant.

    Yes he
Hopefully 2013 will be our year, as my friend said.
That would be really nice hehe.
Pff, that’s quite a lot to take in, trying to get pregnant, and I’m not even properly started yet

    @kiki
I stopped the pill on Jan 14th and got my period normally,
but now I'm waiting for the first real period, yeah,
I've also had a bloated belly and pain lower down for a week. It really hurts, and now there's a lot of discharge down there, (sorry)
And in the morning I feel like I'm going to be sick, I really need to eat something,
I find it all quite exciting, whether it's due to coming off the pill or being pregnant,
    It's all quite exciting, huh,
    cheers

    Hey lady89

Thanks for the reply, anyway. You're right about the discharge. I have that too. I'm now using daily liners every day... I do find it smells a bit, which supposedly isn't normal (sorry for that), but my boyfriend says he doesn't smell anything when I'm sitting next to him. I'm not really keeping track or calculating anything, not even doing extra "chores" or anything, but sometimes I think maybe I'm imagining it and picturing things because I want it so much, and that it only stands out now when I have a twinge or something... All weird stuff

More discharge can have various causes, but it can perfectly be related to a pregnancy.
You're making it quite exciting like this, eh!

Wow, it's all really exciting, huh. Well, I'm trying to remind myself that it's not happening yet, so the disappointment won't be too heavy, I think hehe
  14. lady89 #15

    kiki.
exactly, i feel the same way,
exciting, just wait and see, i'm also afraid of the disappointment,

    Hi Kiki,

Sounds familiar! I had this too at the start of my pregnancy, although I didn't know I was pregnant right away!
I had one day of bright red bleeding which made me postpone the pregnancy, but I did have sensitive breasts and nipples, a strange taste in my mouth, was very tired and started feeling nauseous..
I hadn't been on the pill for a long time, but because of tests I had to take the pill for a week and after stopping the pill I got pregnant..
I was kind of reading at the start of this forum about the age..
I'm also just 21, my due date is 6 days after my 22nd birthday, but it's being pushed back 8 days before my birthday so then I'll still be 21, many girls I know were 18, 19 and 20 when they had to give birth so there are a lot of young moms..
The discharge would be related to the pregnancy and according to my gynecologist you'd better change your panties more often than using panty liners because that gives a moist effect. Which can make it worse..
Also the discharge could be a candida infection (vaginal yeast infection) that occurs in women and even more often during pregnancy

But wait a bit longer for your period and otherwise do a test then you'll know for sure! xxx

I was supposed to get my period on Sunday. But since it’s carnival time, I tested on Sunday morning to see if I could have a drink or not. The test was negative. Now I still haven’t gotten my period, and since last night I’ve been having muscle pain in my lower abdomen. So when I sneeze, laugh, or yawn, I feel it... I’m also super sensitive to smells. Just to give an example: I have a puppy at home, and yesterday I was lying on the couch and I could smell that she had peed about 7 meters behind me... It’s all so weird.
  17. Poesh #18

@kiki: being able to smell things more strongly can be a sign of pregnancy. If I were you, I’d just take another test tomorrow. There might not have been enough in your urine yet.
