Does anyone know the difference in pronunciation between Selena and Seléna? And is it possible to write the second version with a hyphen on the last e?

I think the pronunciation is the same, so the hyphen is unnecessary. In my opinion, you pronounce the name Se-lee-na whether you use the hyphen or not.

If you really have to follow the sounds according to standard Dutch like they say here.. Selena is pronounced as Se-le-na so no long ee
and Seléna : Se-lee-na then the emphasis really is on the e at the end..
If you want to put a hyphen between the 2 e's you pronounce it as See-lee-na

Of course you choose the spelling yourself right girl!! and pronounce it however you want
I would go for the spelling Seléna I think it looks nice written!
My name is spelled Daphne and pronounced as Defnie many here see the ph as a French F and call me Dafne..

Good luck with choosing the spelling

Thanks for your reply. I was pointing out that in Dutch, Selena isn't pronounced as se-LAY-na like it is in English or American. But I really want my daughter to be called Selena with an 'e' sound. You're right though, I get to decide the spelling, and I've chosen to leave out the hyphen—it'll be easier for the kid. Greetings!

Indeed, you choose something like that yourself...
We did the same here, our girl is going to be called Nyana, pronounced as Ni-jana. But I'm for a special spelling...
You've chosen a really beautiful name, and whether that hyphen is there or not, you decide how it should be pronounced anyway.

Thank you! Your name is also very beautiful. But would you pronounce Selena as Se-Lie-Na or as Se-Le-Na with an 'e' like in Lena? Love
