Curious about the first ultrasound!!

19 and pregnant
Hi everyone, I'm Gen and I'm 19 years old. I'm already 6, almost 7 weeks pregnant. At first, it took some getting used to the idea that I'll be a mom in 9 months, but now there's nothing I'd rather do than finally get to see my little one! On Feb 11th, we have our first ultrasound, when I'll be 10 weeks pregnant... we're so curious! But how does the first ultrasound actually go?

Usually, the first ultrasound is internal because your uterus hasn't risen above your pubic bone yet, so they won't see anything through the abdomen. They'll look at the baby, measure it to see how far along you really are, and you'll also be able to hear the heartbeat. Really something to look forward to!

First of all, a huge congratulations!!
I totally get it, girl, it's a bit of a shock and adjustment to realize you'll be a mom after 9 months. I felt the same way. I'm 22 myself and I'm due on Monday, so we're almost there..
My first scan was also at 10 weeks. I only knew I was pregnant for 2 days at that time... (long story)
But like Anne said, the first one is an internal scan. They measure the baby and you can hear the heartbeat. Then they calculate how far along you really are and give you an estimated due date. Now, that might differ from your next check-up. But there's nothing to worry about! I had 3 different dates: Jan 7, 14, 21.. And look, my girl is still in the belly. The latest they'll induce her is Jan 28 if she doesn't come on her own. Enjoy your first scan, girl, and if you have questions for your midwife/doctor, definitely ask! They'll also tell you what you're allowed and not allowed to eat, etc.
Lots of love and really enjoy this special moment!!!
    Xx

It was exciting, I sat there with a lump in my throat and really heavy knees, but it was amazing!

Thank you for your reply! I do have a bit of an idea now.. Yes, I often wonder if I’m allowed to eat something or not.. that’s really new for me, I used to eat anything and now I have to think about it. It’s all quite exciting, and has your girl been born yet?

    Hi girls,
Our girl is still not here unfortunately.. Tomorrow back to the monitor for a check-up.. then we'll discuss with the doctor how and what for the birth.. But she'll definitely be born by January 28th...
Yes, if you're resistant to toxoplasmosis, you can eat and drink almost everything.. My gynecologist said I could eat and drink anything, but in moderation of course, like preparing something once a week or so... But you'll get a list if you ask for it, and you'll naturally start paying attention to it.. Just always make sure to wash your vegetables really well, etc.. I still do that too, and when we eat out, I skip the veggies just to be safe...
    Lots of love

Thank you! Yes, I also prefer a "normal" ultrasound, but well, it's all secondary. As soon as I hear the little heart beating, I'm already happy! It's all very exciting, then you find out if you're having a girl or a boy!!

    Love,

    Gen
