Birth story Mika
Last Tuesday morning I gave birth to Mika. Here’s my birth story. Last Monday afternoon at 4:30 I went to the midwife with my partner. Everything was fine, nothing to worry about. We went home, had a nice meal and showered on time. At 9:30 I felt a little prick in my belly that wasn’t painful at all, and ten seconds later it was drip drip drip. I told my partner something had popped. My waters broke. And it kept flowing, really! I went to the toilet, changed into fresh clothes and underwear, but it wouldn’t stop. As soon as I got up from the toilet, it started flowing again. Anyway, still no contractions or anything. The midwife had visited around 10:45 and advised going to bed early, which was the plan. Once in bed, the contractions started. And don’t ask how! Pff.. that was intense! I found it awful, since the contractions lasted 40 to 50 seconds with only 30 seconds in between. I held out for two hours and called the midwife. She came over with a lot of pain and effort. I was 3 cm dilated and she said she’d come back the next morning. I really couldn’t hold out anymore, so I decided to go to the hospital for pain relief. I felt a bit weak about it, since I’d had an uncomplicated pregnancy and only had two hours of contractions. I thought, what must those women go through who are in labor for hours and hours. In the end, it was a 20-minute drive to the hospital, and we were on the delivery ward at 4:15. I still had to pee on the toilet, and then the midwife asked if I had an urge to push. I had no idea. Quickly onto the bed to check how many cm dilated I was. I was already 9 cm! Pff, that was fast! From 3 to 9 in twenty minutes! Then just a little while longer and I could start pushing! I had pushing contractions for 35 minutes, and at 5:10 Mika was born. Unfortunately, I still had to go to the OR to be stitched up with an epidural. In the end, I’m glad I went to the hospital and I realize my contractions weren’t normal but were too intense right away. All in all, I’m very happy with this fast birth and look back on it as a success!
