Feeding
Rash and heavy breathing. Allergy?
TTGuest ·
Hi everyone,
Just a quick question, I was wondering if anyone here has experienced the same thing.
We have a 7-week-old baby girl now. Since the beginning, she’s been breastfed, mostly pumped.
- From the start, she’s always had heavy breathing. Like grunting, wheezing, kind of snorting. The midwives at the hospital, the home midwife, the family nurse, and the pediatrician all said this is pretty common. At first due to mucus, and later because of a small nasal cavity.
- We’ve been gradually reducing breastfeeding for 2 weeks now, and for the past week she’s been getting almost half her feeds with formula. Since a week ago, she developed a rash on her face, neck, and belly. The rash came and went several times a day.
==> Because of this recurring rash, the pediatrician suspects a cow’s milk protein allergy. So now we’re giving her a cow’s milk protein-free formula, and I’m avoiding all dairy in my diet. We’ve been doing this for 2 days now. She really doesn’t like the formula though. She’s only drinking 50–70ml instead of the usual 90–120ml.
It’s too early to say if the rash will go away, since it’s still there. But her breathing has improved!!
* So my question is: has anyone here experienced breathing issues related to a cow’s milk protein allergy?
I’m also adding a photo of her rash.
Greetings from a worried mom.
