Need help with naming

Hi ladies,

I'm pregnant with my first baby. It's going to be a girl My husband and I would like to name her after my late father. His name is Marcel, and we're considering the name Marèl (Marcel without the C). We're both happy with it. We're just not sure if the reference is too direct and if it would be better as a middle name.

What do you think? And do you have any suggestions for what would go well with Marèl as a first or middle name? (So ... Marèl or Marèl ....)

Looking forward to your reactions! Xx

It's nice that you're going to name after him, and what a beautiful tribute to your dad.
I think Marèl is fine as a first name. You could maybe check with your mom (if your parents aren't divorced) what she thinks about naming after the nickname, but honestly, I don't think that's even necessary. It really is a different name.

I also think Marèl is beautiful as a first name! It can of course also be a second name, nothing wrong with that at all. Here are some options for second names (mostly French, because I find that fits well):

    Marèl Frederique
    Marèl Lilou
    Marèl Sophia
    Marèl Juliette
    Marèl Veronie
    Marèl Amelie
    Marèl Valerie
    Marèl Isabeau
    Marèl Jolijn
    Marèl Lutein
    Marèl Alix
    Marèl Philou
    Marèl Cecilia
    Marèl Cecile
    Marèl Irene
    Marèl Jolene
    Marèl Bibi
    Marèl Fae/Fay/Fé
    Marèl Aurore
    Marèl Eloise
    Marèl Julie
    Marèl Loïse
    Marèl Louise
    Marèl Nadine
    Marèl Violet

Nice! That works perfectly as a first or second name.
    Whatever feels right for you.

Here are some options for the first or second name:
    Anna Marèl
    Chloë Marèl
    Donna Marèl
    Ella Marèl
    Julia Marèl
    Nina Marèl
    Olivia Marèl
    Rosa Marèl
    Suze Marèl
    Thirza Marèl
    Marèl Céline
    Marèl Féline
    Marèl Fiona
    Marèl Nikita
    Marèl Rosalie
    Marèl Sophia
    Marèl Suzanne
    Marèl Valerie
    Marèl Veerle
    Marèl Willemijn
I notice that with Marèl as the second name, I mainly go for a short first name, and with Marèl as the first name, I go for a second name with 3 syllables.
