Abortion or not?

Hi A&N,
I believe you should choose with your heart. And even if you were to choose with your head, I don’t see any real reason to opt for an abortion. Everything is fine with you two; it’s just that the timing isn’t ideal. But honestly; when does the right time come to turn your whole life upside down? Who knows what the 'problems' will be next year or in 5 years.. What I do know is that if you choose an abortion, you’ll carry that with you for your whole life. So you need to be 100% sure about your choice and truly stand by it. Taking care of a child is the most beautiful thing there is. You may not know that yet, but I can assure you it really is. I wish you both lots of strength in making your decision. And talk about it with people you trust and who won’t judge. Maybe they can help you make the choice because they can look at the situation from a different perspective.

Exactly as described above. Follow your heart, and it will turn your life upside down, whether you're ready for it or not.
I do read a lot of doubt in your story. If you're unsure, I wouldn't go through with an abortion. The fact that you're doubting shows that deep down, you probably do want this baby. Maybe you could talk it over with family, even though it's still very early?

I agree with the comments above. If you're unsure, don't do it anyway.
Apart from that, everything is in order and you want children in the future. You never know if getting pregnant in the future will work out; there's no guarantee.
I'm afraid you'll end up feeling a lot of regret and always feel guilty if you have an abortion.
You have a good relationship, a house, and stable jobs. You can definitely handle this. Yes, it turns your life upside down, but that also happens if you choose to have kids later on ;-) And there are many parents with education, so that shouldn't be a reason for abortion, I think.
Despite the "objections," you get so much beauty back!

I would never have an abortion, no matter how young or old I would have been. Not even if it’s the baby of my husband/partner

I would never, ever, ever have an abortion! I worked for 6 years for our little miracle! You have your life in order with a job and a nice partner! And you were there yourself when you got pregnant, right?

It seems really hard to me to have an abortion now and then later choose to keep the baby. There will always be something that makes a child unplanned; you can't control that. But of course, you're free to make your choice. I'd say take some more time to think it over.

How are you doing now, and what are you thinking about it?
I won't give you advice on whether to go ahead or not. That's sooooo personal. And I won't say, as mentioned above, that a child only brings happiness... That's not what I'd say. It brought me a lot of worries and insecurities. I experienced symptoms associated with postpartum depression and had a really tough first few months. I needed a lot of time to find myself again. We really wanted a child, and we got through that difficult time together.
I mean more... every story is different... and being pregnant or having a child can be a rosy cloud... but it can also have very difficult periods.
I would look for a professional who can ask you some good questions... so that you can find the answer that fits you both. Personally, I'd call my GP first. They might be able to ask good questions themselves or refer you to someone else. You'll surely find the answer. Good luck.

What reasons do you have for thinking it won’t work out? It can totally work with a friend who’s studying. The rest is stable. With a kid, you’ll have to turn your routine upside down anyway. But you’ll naturally adjust to it. You have the coming months to see how you handle the planning, nanny, or daycare if needed. Or maybe there are grandparents who want to babysit? Plenty of time to make preparations. Here, lost a baby at 25 weeks. Then had a daughter and since 7 weeks ago, a little boy. He wasn’t really planned either. My husband wanted an abortion but I absolutely didn’t. He was mainly scared because our first child had a genetic defect and it could recur. But my heart said it would be fine and I just couldn’t do it! So, really follow your heart!

Exactly what Vera says. I understand that it's unimaginable for someone who has been trying for a baby for a long time that someone would want to end it. However, your situation is not the same as someone else's. And as Vera rightly points out, a child is not all roses and moonlight.
