Mace [pronounced as Mees], Bent, Joep, Anders, or rather....

I'm now 33 weeks pregnant with our second son. We're looking for a name with a Dutch touch; it can be modern, but it has to fit well with Ties. We've been debating between two names for a while, but we're not always convinced. We started with a list of 50 names, and we still haven't made up our minds.

What we absolutely DO NOT want is a name starting with an 'S' because of the initials (our last name starts with S), and nothing that sounds like Ties or starts with 'T', because then you get a bit of a 'quack, quack, quack' effect, and we don't want that either... and of course there are super cute names starting with 'T' or 'S', but we're sticking to our principles...

Shoot...

I think both Bent and Joep fit really well. I wouldn't go with Mace though, it doesn't sound Dutch. Mees, on the other hand, is a really nice option. But I think Ties and Joep make the most beautiful combination! Simple and smooth.

I really think Joep is super cute. And it also sounds nice with Ties.
Bent is also nice, that works fine. But Mace really isn't beautiful.
    Otherwise maybe:
Daaf, Duuk, Faas, Fenn, Gijs, Guus, Jens, Jent, Jorn, Jort, Koen, Lars, Lenn, Loek, Luuk, Mark, Mart, Mats, Moos, Nick, Niek, Noud, Rens, Rick, Roef, Roel, Wout

You want a Dutch name, but why Mace?
Mace looks like you're trying to make the name Mees 'interesting' by changing the spelling, and you completely miss the mark.
It reminds me of the name (English pronunciation) Airwrecka instead of Erica.
    Just go with Mees then.
Mees fits well with Ties. I find Bent too much like 'tick-tock, you're it' on the schoolyard.
I don't like Joep at all.

These names will mean there will be 30 Joeps in the class again sigh

I hope you don't have a fishbone floor and a black steel door either????
I'd go with a name that's close to your heart. I think Mace is quite nice. Good for his international career , if you're going to choose Mees anyway, at least try to be original. I know 100 Mees, it's already as common as Henk and Jan. Ties and Mace are no problem, or I think Mase is even nicer.

What do you think of Maas? It comes up a lot in our family. Ties & Maas, super tough!
Not as obvious as Tijs and Mees. Fits much better with Ties and both are old Dutch.
I’d really try to stay away from names that are too obvious. You might regret it if all the kids in the neighborhood have the same name as your sweetheart.

So then.. sorry 'C' but I just want to respond to you. Anonymous is looking for a name with a Dutch touch. She's torn between 3 names.
Honestly, I find it completely irrelevant what your very strong opinion is about the names, variants, Visgraat flooring or black steel doors, or names you've heard 100 times already.
Some people just prefer trends, others prefer something more authentic. That doesn't mean someone with a different opinion is less.
Of course, it's a consideration whether you want multiple kids with the same name in the class, but I think you forget that it's not about you, but about a name that feels right for Anonymous and her partner. It's their baby and their choice. I think you should respond in a more respectful way.

    And then...
Personally, I'd never go for Joep myself. Kids rhyme everything with a -p-, so you can guess how fun they'll make it rhyme. Joep - poop. But well, you always have rhymes or names with a slightly higher teasing potential. I think Mace / Mees is the most lovely, and then Joep. I find Bent to be a verb and not a name. I do find Brent lovely though, but you didn't ask about that ;-)
