HELP..my sister-in-law

Hi ladies,
Sorry I just need to get this off my chest, I really don't know what to do with it.
My sister-in-law is making me so angry, I don't know if it's the hormones, but I'm really getting annoyed with her! It's like she's super jealous. For example, we were walking on the beach with a group and my husband held my hand for a moment, and she immediately ran over to him like a little kid and started tickling him... she does stuff like that a lot more often.
And we're expecting our first baby in February and we already told our parents and siblings at 10 weeks because I was so nauseous... her only reaction was, well, you're saying that already, you know what could still happen... And now in the last few weeks when we're there and the conversation turns to our baby, she always says "how is Max's baby doing?" (Max is my husband) Max's baby this and that, even though I'm right there... then I think, hello, IT'S YOUR baby too.. sorry I don't want to come across as a nag, and whether it's the hormones or not, do you think this is normal??? She's 27 by the way, so not a teenage girl or anything :-) hihi

Love, Femke

    Hi Femke, your hormones are probably playing tricks on you too, which is why you're starting to notice it more now. But there is indeed some jealousy involved too!

    If you get such a reaction just from saying you're pregnant... or when she asks exactly how Max's kid is doing, as if you're just there for Pietsnot and basically just hand over the little one like you're an incubator and do nothing else... well, she probably didn't mean it that way, but that's how it comes across... She likely has a secret desire for a child herself and reacts this way because you're the first one to get pregnant, not her.

    I have a cousin in my family who is almost 8 months pregnant. Since we told her at 12 weeks, neither she nor her boyfriend has wished us congratulations... Turns out they've been trying for half a year without success, and now I suddenly show up as the younger cousin who's suddenly pregnant... Well, my cousin won't get a card if she keeps this up; she'll probably hear it from her brother then He was over the moon when he heard the news.

    Anyway, girl, I'd say try not to get too worked up and keep enjoying your little one! Talk about it with your husband! Have you maybe already done that? And what does he say?!

    Good luck with your pregnancy and enjoy these last few months!
    If you need to vent, you can always reach out here! It's good to let off steam when you're frustrated!!!
    Love,

    Thanks for your sweet reply!
    I have to say it does weigh on me, I'm really thinking about it.
    To be honest, I haven't even talked about it with my husband yet. I keep thinking I'm probably overthinking it and should just let it go, but maybe I should talk to him about it after all.
    She's still single herself, has never had a boyfriend, which I think is pretty sad for her, of course, but she can still act normal.
    And what a weird reaction from your cousin, really. It's annoying for them, but I'd think she could at least be happy for you guys It's strange how some people can react. I can imagine she feels sorry for them but just can't bring herself to say congratulations.

    Greetings, Femke

    Hi Femke, I can totally understand why you're upset! That's not nice at all, obviously!

    Definitely try to talk it over with your husband so he knows how you're feeling right now. He might experience it differently than you do, or maybe he thinks the same but doesn't dare to tell you because you don't say anything either.

    So your sister-in-law is still single, I understand? That's a bit sad for her, of course, but there's probably a deeper reason behind it, right? And since she's already 27, her biological clock is probably ticking away for her too. That's all fine and good, but it's no reason to react so rudely towards you guys, especially not by just ignoring you when you're there. I hope she'll calm down and realize that you're part of this once your little one is born in February. After all, it's your baby that you conceived together. Even if you had split up with your husband, you'd still always be part of each other's lives; you share something together. But yeah, some people just don't think that deeply.

    Well, girl, good luck with talking it over with your husband! And let me know how he reacted!!

    Yeah, my cousin also thinks it's rude, but I can't do anything about it. We weren't even trying for kids yet here... I just took my pill on time as usual and never got sick, always got my period, and then suddenly nothing. After some tests, it turned out I was already 10 weeks and 4 days pregnant. It wasn't planned, but it was more than welcome. Maybe that rubs her the wrong way a bit. We got pregnant on the pill, had no trouble, never faced any setbacks, and then she can't conceive right away. I do think it's really sad that she can't be happy for us. I get that it's hard if you really want kids yourself, but surely you can still say congratulations?! Anyway, I haven't heard from or seen her since she knew I was pregnant. Her brother, who is gay, I see almost every week. I just sent him a text, and he came to give me a big hug. Their bond has always been stronger, but still... how can someone react like that?

    Lots of love

    @dreams can come true,
    I will indeed have a calm talk with my husband about it. It feels a bit awkward to say, like I'm bashing his sister, but he needs to know. I don't think he even realizes how she acts.
    And you're absolutely right about your niece. It's quite funny how her brother reacts in that situation. It's so different, how people can react to something!!??
    Fortunately, more people react positively than negatively, but it's never really nice, especially within the family.

    @Olivia,
    That's really awful about your friend's friend!! You must think, where does she get the nerve to talk to you like that? Meanwhile! I think it's so awful that people do that, especially towards such a little kid. I don't get it at all. And then acting like she knows everything. Well, you're right to cut off contact with her!
    I've also been thinking about it, just like you said: just be friendly and smiling, what to say... And that's probably the best approach. Otherwise, it won't end. I think if I don't, one day I'll get the same reaction as you, where it gnaws at me until I explode hihi
    I see now that you're already at 40 weeks, how exciting!!! It could happen any moment now. I wish you lots of success in advance, and hope you have a good and beautiful birth!!

    Thanks for your kind replies, it does me good.

    Greetings, Femke

    Hey Olivia, still nothing?

    The beauty of being pregnant is that sometimes you can say things under the guise of 'I didn't mean it like that, I was suffering from my hormones.' :-) If she makes such a remark again, act as if your nose is bleeding and say: 'I don't know which child you mean, but with OUR baby, things are going well anyway.'
    And why not confront her directly with her hateful behavior. If you indicate that it makes you sad or gives you the feeling of being an outsider, she'd have to be a real bitch not to take you seriously.
