Am I pregnant?

Kleintjee
Who can help me?
Yesterday morning I took a pregnancy test and initially it was negative. Later in the day, I checked again and there seemed to be a faint second line. This morning, just to be sure, I took another test and it was negative again. What could this mean?

That's a faint line. When were you supposed to get your period?

Yeah, I thought so too, but isn't an implantation line usually white or yellow?
Just as a heads-up regarding my previous post:
My last period started on Jan 6. I stopped the pill right after that. According to a schedule, my ovulation should be on Jan 20 (so today). I took an ovulation test on Monday and it was negative.
I have had a lot of stomach cramps etc. for a few days now though.
If all goes well, my next period should start on Feb 3.

Why did you take a pregnancy test if you were expecting ovulation?

I've read experiences where a pregnancy test reacted to ovulation. (This seems like a product defect to me, as it shouldn't happen.)

I think you should have taken an ovulation test instead.
But if you're unsure, there's nothing else to do but wait.
And take a new test in a few days.
The longer you wait, the higher your hCG levels would be if you were pregnant.
So in a week, you'll likely either have a clear positive test, or it reacted to your ovulation. (Evaporation lines are indeed always white or yellow, in my opinion.)

Yeah, that's right. I did that because my ovulation test was negative and I'd been having severe abdominal pain for a few days, so I just wanted to be sure.
I'll take another ovulation test today and then a pregnancy test again in early February. Hopefully, I'll have more clarity by then.

Right after stopping the pill, your cycle can do some weird things.
    - Some get pregnant right away
    - sometimes ovulation stops
    - sometimes the cycle takes a long time
    - or very short
    - generally out of sync (one month short, the next long)

So it might take a little while to find your new cycle rhythm.

Okay, learned something new haha! Thank you so much.
I'm still really figuring things out, indeed, since this is also a first pregnancy. I really feel like I'm such a newbie and know nothing, but it'll surely work out. ????
  7. Anoniem92 #8

I can say that it will work out.
But I'm talking to ladies who have been trying for way too long... and your body can really play tricks on you.
So the longer it takes, the more you'll learn along the way.
Tips (which I don't always follow myself either)
    - try not to obsess over it too much (this is the hardest part, but if you know your cycle a bit and just make it 'fun' when you feel like it, you're already giving yourself good chances)
    - after a positive ovulation test (positive only when the test line is as dark or darker than the control line) your egg releases max 48 hours later and lives for another 24 hours after that. So max 72 hours chance after the test.
    - don't force anything (see point 1)
    - take folic acid every day (if you're not already)
    - really wait at least 10 days after ovulation before taking a pregnancy test. But better is at least 14 days (usually around your Missed Period Day)
    - if you find waiting long, chat along with other groups to distract yourself from your own cycle (or if you should actually start obsessing, then that's not good either)
    - keep in mind that 6 months to 1 year is very normal.

And if you're worried about anything... talk! With your partner/friend or someone else in your life who knows about your wish or us

Thank you so much for all the tips! I'll take my time browsing around this forum, and if I have any questions, I know where to find you all!

I thought my ovulation would be on the 14th, but it turned out to be today with the ovulation tests (the test was only positive yesterday).

Maybe you should keep doing ovulation tests; maybe you're also a few days behind.
  10. Anoniem92 #11

Good tip Larissa, I had completely forgotten about that (because they always have a line now for me). But it could also be that you started testing late and already missed your egg...

Just a quick update. This is the same test now... no idea why I kept it, but it looks like the line has suddenly become clearer.

  12. Larissa87 #13

    Congratulations, little one!
  13. Larissa87 #14

Just now you meant you tested 'fresh' again, right?
If it's the one from this afternoon, I don't know if it's reliable, so ignore my previous message if that's the case
  14. Anonymous Guest #15

No, this is the test from two days ago. But I just read in another thread that this brand has these kinds of drying lines. Really annoying.. but expected. Try again in early February??
  15. Kleintjee started this #16

That "guest" above is actually me, haha. I haven't quite figured out this forum yet.
  16. Anoniem92 #17

Was the test in the first photo still 'wet'?
Dry tests do indeed always show clearer lines, but they're no longer reliable/invalid.
I'm not familiar with that brand, but evaporation lines seem to me to be more white/yellowish.
But the tests I've had never showed an evaporation line. They stayed either bone-white, or I was pregnant.

You were going to do ovulation tests, right?
Just keep doing them for the next week, and if no ovulation occurs, you could do a pregnancy test just to be sure.

The line always dries clearly. After the reading time, it unfortunately becomes a drying line. I wouldn't consider this positive.

If you took the pill properly last month, you can't be pregnant now. Why do you think you are pregnant?

Your cycle lasts about 4 weeks. You can only possibly be pregnant after 4 weeks, not after 2. At the earliest, you'd have ovulation then.

After stopping contraception, you should actually assume that your body needs at least the first few months to adjust and get back on track. This can mean having very short, very long cycles, or being very irregular. Or not getting your period for a while. For the pill, it takes at least a year.

Take a deep breath, throw that test away. Give yourself and your body some time to get off the pill. Have sex 2-3 times a week, that's good. That gives you the best chance of pregnancy for two fertile people. You can always use ovulation tests later.

Little one, the anonymous person above makes a good point. Put all the tests away and take a few months to figure out how your cycle works. Are you quick to regulate, how does your period go, can you find your ovulation without a test (discharge, temp, abdominal pain,...). If you have a bit of that down, you can more easily time when you have the most chance and then have sex, of course! And in the beginning, enjoy each other a lot. A pregnancy test is really a waste after two weeks!
