Getting pregnant after a miscarriage

Hi,
I had a miscarriage 5 weeks ago. I thought I’d get my period last week, but the bleeding stopped after just 2 days. I’ve never had such a short period before. Does anyone know why this could be?
Kind regards, Trui

Hi Trui, that’s either because you’re pregnant again or because your hormones are still all mixed up from your previous pregnancy. To be honest, I think it’s the latter. Unfortunately, you can’t get an accurate result from a pregnancy test until 8 weeks after a miscarriage because the pregnancy hormones are still in your body.

You can have yourself examined by a doctor or midwife if you really want to know whether you’re pregnant, but they won’t be able to check for a few weeks.

    Hi Nanada,
I took a test a week after my miscarriage, and it was already negative. So the pregnancy hormone was already out of my body. Could it be that my hormones are still all messed up now?

My first period after the miscarriage lasted 1 day. Your cycle just needs a little time to get back on track. I got pregnant right away after that, so a shorter period shouldn't be an issue in that regard.

Thanks for your reply, RJ, that sounds hopeful!! Congrats on your pregnancy. Hopefully, it turns out positive for me too. Miscarriage is a real downer. On top of that, a lot of people around me are now announcing that they're pregnant. So they're all ahead of where I'd actually be. I'm happy for them, but it's quite confronting. Once I'm pregnant myself, this will feel totally different!!

Hi Trui, thank you so much. It's awful, a miscarriage however early on. You also start doubting your body. A new pregnancy soothes the wounds a bit, but I still often think "Oh, I would have been so many weeks now" and remember that intense time. The miscarriage was not so long ago for me either, mid-September. Unfortunately, I still can't enjoy this pregnancy, always afraid that my body will let me down. I hope you get pregnant again soon. Since you've had a period now, that means new chances anyway! Wishing you lots of success Love, RJ

    Hi RJ,
thanks for your sweet reply! I tried to unwind a bit, which is why I haven't been on the site lately. I hope you're slowly starting to enjoy yourself more and more! I don't know how many weeks along you were when you had the miscarriage last time?

Hi Trui, last pregnancy I had miscarriage symptoms at 6 weeks. It probably went wrong very early on. It also wasn't in the uterus, so I had to keep going to the hospital for check-ups for weeks. Because of that, I was allowed to come in for a check-up very quickly this time too. Had the first scan at 4 weeks. Now 4 scans later, I've seen and heard a beating heart. But despite that, I'm still very unsure, though it's getting a little bit less so little by little. Next Tuesday I'm getting another scan, which is really nice. I hope you guys get pregnant again soon. Lots of luck Keep us updated? Love, RJ

That's super news!! What an exciting time you're looking forward to again. Apparently, you're still quite fertile after a miscarriage Congratulations and enjoy it!!

Thanks! I think the enjoyment really starts once the first ultrasound is good. I don't dare to get too excited before that yet...

Hey ladies, congratulations to those who are pregnant!!
I'm having a curettage tomorrow (day admission under anesthesia). I have a pregnancy with a gestational sac but no embryo. I'm also scared that it will take a long time to get pregnant again, but I wonder: I see that many ladies get pregnant quickly after a miscarriage, but for you ladies, how long did it take after your miscarriage? Or was that quick too? Thanks in advance, ladies.
PS: If I were you, Trui, I would enjoy myself and only have an ultrasound after 7/8 weeks. That way, you'll know for sure if it's good or bad, because by then you should hear the heartbeat and see something. That's my advice!! Take care, girl.

    Hi Esra,
That's really tough for you. It's still such a miracle, a baby. You can see that from how many things can go wrong! Sending you lots of strength.
I was about 3 months trying to get pregnant with my previous pregnancy. Actually quite fast, so. I don't know how long it took you, but reading your message it seems like it took longer for you! Hoping it happens faster this time, but first try to recover well. I had quite a while of physical complaints after my miscarriage. I barely recognized my own body anymore.
Well, as soon as an ultrasound makes sense, I'd really like to have one. Since last time they thought it might have gone wrong after 5 weeks. If it's not okay, I'd rather know as soon as possible. But it does look like it'll be at 7 weeks.

    Hi Esraa,
I'm so happy for you! And I'll be cheering for you to get pregnant again soon!!

    Hi Esraa,
I’m 5.5 weeks now. Very early, so still! I didn’t get pregnant right away, but it was quick. There was one cycle in between.
    Greetings, Trui

    This is good to read.

I stopped the pill at the end of May 2013, got my period in early June.
Early July positive test. Mid-July miscarriage.
After more than 2 weeks the bleeding stopped.
But after 2 days, bleeding again for almost a week.
According to the GP, this could well have been a period.

Now at the end of September, bleeding again (period?) but not nearly as heavy as when I was on the pill.

So it could well be due to the hormones still clearing out of my system???
    I definitely can't be pregnant.

    Hi ladies,
I'd like to join you. I had bleeding at 6 weeks which ended in a miscarriage. Last Tuesday I had an ultrasound and my womb was empty.
She also said that my womb was already preparing for ovulation again. So it healed itself.
Now we're going to try again and hope to get pregnant soon!

    Hi,

I was 15 weeks pregnant when I was in the hospital for the first time. I had a high fever and was completely dehydrated. They gave me the wrong diagnosis, prescribed antibiotics, and gave me fluids. After 4 days, I was allowed to go home. I vomited up the medication because I had to swallow pills at the time. My GP told me to stop taking the meds because I didn't have a bladder infection. A week later, I had a high fever again, and had already been experiencing some fluid loss. The doctor said it was due to the antibiotics, but it wasn't.

My water broke, and I had been having contractions for a week.

I went for a check-up, and his heartbeat was still there, but they saw that most of the amniotic fluid was gone. He had already turned so that his head could stay in the water.

At week 16, they induced labor, and I had to give birth.

Two months later, there was still a piece of placenta stuck, which they removed with a curettage on 11/15.

My desire to have a child is still very strong; we're actually already trying again.

But now that I'm writing this, my tears are back.

I don't want to replace him.

But honestly, I think or hope that a new pregnancy will make me happy again.

Am I doing the right thing? I don't know.

I hope you all find more luck soon and get to welcome your baby
