Ella -ellie

Hi everyone,
I'm expecting my first baby and my husband and I really like the name Ella. There are two friends we see quite often (who don't know each other) whose little girls are named Ellie.
Now we're wondering: do Ellie and Ella sound too similar? What do you think?
We find it really hard to decide ourselves..

Thanks!

    Ella is great, really.

Ella can easily be so different from Ellie. I find Ellie a bit old-fashioned, while Ella has a completely different vibe.

I also have a different association with Ella (quick, girly, tough) than with Ellie. That's why I really think the names are two different ones and you can definitely go for Ella.

In Belgium, I think it's a bit different than in the Netherlands. Here, Ellie is a somewhat old-fashioned, old-school name that's more common for older women than for kids. It could change, of course—just look at how trendy the name 'Saar' has become now.
But in Belgium, Ellie is already very trendy and quite common.

I do think they're somewhat similar. But if it's truly the name for you two, I'd go for it!
