Ready or not?

Hi everyone,

How do you know if you're ready to become a mom? This question has been running through my head for a few days now. I really want to become a mom, but I just don't know if this is the right time. I'm a dedicated gymnast and it's really sad to have to stop because of this. I do have in mind to start gymnastics again as soon as possible after, but I don't know if that's feasible.

I'm 24 years old now and have a permanent contract for 3 days a week. I've always wanted to be a young mom and actually don't want to wait much longer. We've now had sex twice almost without protection, but at the last moment I didn't dare anymore and my husband put on a condom anyway. I don't really know what's holding me back.. I don't handle change very well and that's definitely going to happen when you have a child ;-) I just don't know how everything is going to change and that scares me. I want to know everything. What will our life look like? Can I start gymnastics again after?

Are there more people who have struggled with this doubt and found it really exciting at the last moment? Do you have tips or can you share a similar story of how it eventually went?

I'd love to hear from you.

    Tricky, Anno10,
I think you'll never be completely ready for it. There will always be things you have to let go of, but you'll get something beautiful in return. You also don't know if everything will work out. The same goes for waiting another two years; you just don't know. What helped me a lot was that we simply agreed on a date... about half a year later we'd go for it (now our wish was really big though That way you can really look forward to something. I'm busy right now. You both have to be 1000% behind it. Good luck with this decision

I think a lot of women have those thoughts go through their heads.
I can tell you, once your baby is here, you'll know exactly what to do. It eventually becomes automatic.
And if you want to start gymnastics again after pregnancy, that should be possible, I think. Make good arrangements with your partner about this.

Thanks for your replies. We've actually set a date now to just go for it. Yeah, maybe it won't work out in one go, and I might regret later that I didn't start sooner.
My husband says I can definitely keep doing gymnastics, I'm just worried it'll be physically tough after the pregnancy and birth. Unfortunately, I haven't found anyone yet who has experience with this.
