PMS symptoms or something else?

Hi ladies,

It's been a while since I last posted here. Our active trying-to-conceive journey started back in April 2019. So, we've already been through quite a few rounds. Since September, we've been doing IUI, and I'm currently in the two-week wait after IUI #2.

Ever since I stopped using contraception, I've had a specific symptom that tells me my period is coming. I get really painful legs, ankles, and wrists. It's kind of a dull joint pain. Sometimes it starts pretty soon after ovulation and lasts until my period arrives. I've always considered this a 'normal' symptom, but after a year and a half of trying, you start doubting everything and hoping to find an explanation anywhere. I haven't found anything online about this kind of symptom. So here goes: does anyone recognize this? Is it due to a deficiency or excess of a certain hormone during the second half of the cycle?

Best,
Kathe

    Hi,

It's so sad that you've been waiting for a little one for so long I was wondering if endometriosis could be the cause of that pain? I'm not sure if ankles and wrists are also part of it, but sore shoulders, for example, are a symptom, so maybe worth looking into or asking about? Good luck!

Thanks for your reply. I don't have 'typical' endometriosis symptoms. No severe period pain or heavy bleeding. Until recently, nothing abnormal was visible on the ultrasounds either. But in September, I suddenly turned out to have a cyst on my right fallopian tube. The fertility specialist immediately mentioned endometriosis when she saw this. And I had read afterwards that you can have severe endometriosis without the typical symptoms. After the 3rd IUI, they're going to evaluate our trajectory, and there might be a laparoscopy for me to see if they find endometriosis. Unfortunately, with corona, all of this won't be simple... My boyfriend's sperm isn't super either. For now, they attribute our fertility problems to that.
Oh well, it's a matter of persevering and especially having a lot of patience. I thought: I'll just ask here anyway, maybe someone recognizes it.
I wish you lots of success too, Saartje!

    That sounds like a lot!
The only thing I sometimes experience when I have to menstruate is a dull pain in my shins, like you're coming down with a bit of the flu. Otherwise, no complaints! I'd suggest discussing it with your gynecologist. Strength!
