Guilt

Hi everyone,

I have a little girl who will be one month old tomorrow and she's breastfeeding. I was feeding her while she was lying down and had just picked up something from my partner when I accidentally bumped her head. It was on the side/back and she startled, I could see. But she kept drinking and didn't cry.

But moms, I feel so guilty. I'm always so incredibly careful and I can hardly forgive myself for this. I'm taking it very hard. I'm terrified that something will happen to her because of this (since her skull isn't fully grown yet).

Am I overthinking this?

I get it, you just don't want your baby to be in pain, or something like that. But relax... you can't do everything right, some things happen now and then by accident. You yourself mentioned that she probably didn't experience it as too intense, since she just kept drinking and didn't show any signs of distress. Your child will have plenty of chances to stumble and fall once they start crawling, walking, etc.

It's all part of the process, just give it its place.

    Totally understandable reaction. Hormones!!!

Take a deep breath. She's not in pain, otherwise she'd be crying. Even when she's drinking at you.

I guess this is your first baby? They're not as fragile as they seem. Because they're so young, they actually bend with you.

Give yourself a hug and tell yourself, it's not a big deal, it happens. Keep repeating this until you feel better.

Everyone accidentally does something to their child at some point.
