Hi! We're Kim and Glenn, and we're looking for a beautiful name for our baby. We don't know the gender yet. We love old-fashioned Dutch names and have made a list of names we like for both genders. Which ones do you all like? New suggestions are also very welcome!

Girl names:
Cato
Sien
Juul (not Zjuul, but really Juul)
Janne

Boy names:
Gijs
Joep
Melle

Thanks!

That's my preference, regarding your list.

    Girl: Juul
    Boy: Melle

Exciting! Do you already know the gender or is that a surprise? Good luck with your pregnancy and with making the choice!

For a girl, I really like Cato and Juul. Sien and Janne are less appealing to me.
I also like Melle and Joep, but not so much Gijs.
  3. Knoetje #4

    Girl: Juul
    Boy: Gijs

I think Melle is a fantastic boy's name! Guilty pleasure here, because my partner doesn't want to go for it. Says it reminds him of buttery babblers from the Van Melle brand... But I'd totally go for it myself.
Girl's name: I think Cato is super cute but also tough

    Juul and Melle, lovely!
The rest isn't really my thing.
  6. Sofie #7

I love old Dutch names Our 3 boys got them too.

From your list, I'd choose between Cato and Gijs.
  7. Sofie #8

Janne is also super cute, by the way!

    Some more inspiration:

Boys: Tijn Teun Ties Tijs Bram Guus Mees Pepijn Noud

    Girls: Marie Noor Jet Vera

Old Dutch names are totally my thing, fun!
    Here's my opinion:
    Girls' names:
Cato - nice, has a bit of edge, snappy, tough
Sien - good name, original, a bit more old-fashioned than the rest
Juul (not Zjuul, but real Juul) - nice, snappy, original
Janne - not bad, but I like the rest better

    Boys' names:
    Gijs - beautiful, 'simple'
Joep - not ugly, but so rhyme-sensitive
    Melle - beautiful, original
    I'd go for Gijs/Melle and Cato/Juul!

    Boy Gijs????? Girl Juul

I think Juul is the cutest girl's name, and for boys, Melle. But the boy names you mentioned aren't really my style. If I have to choose, it's definitely Melle. I also like Annemijn and Bregje for a girl.
  11. Morag #12

Bregje is nice, Madelene! Kim and Glenn, here are a few more that I personally find really beautiful or nice, for consideration:

    - Mariken, Agnes, Fietje, Dieuwertje, Lena, Mijntje

    - Zeger, Eller, Duco, Ferre, Camiel, Leonard, Sijmen, Simeon

Juul and Melle are my favorite 2 names!

I also think Janne is quite nice. The rest isn't really my thing.

How lovely, all those old Dutch names!
We're having Dirk! My dad's name is Dirk, it's a real family name, and since he's only had daughters so far, I'll pass on his name if it's a boy!
  14. Susanna #15

    Cato and Melle
  15. Druifje24 #16

For a girl, I really like Cato, and for a boy, Joep.
  16. P. Guest #17

    Cato, that's great!
And I also like Sien. Do you know the children's series Sien van Sellingen? It's on Netflix. I immediately thought of that, but in a positive way!

From the boys' list, I'd go with Joep! And I think Krijn is a nice boy's name too, and also Old Dutch, I think!
  17. S. Guest #18

I'd go with girl - Juul and boy - Melle.
We have a Melle here, got lots of nice reactions and no regrets at all!
  18. Anonymous Guest #19

Cato is cool, sweet, and tough

    I also like Wies
  19. Mary Guest #20
