Fernando or Matteo. Do you think these names are 'classic' or rather 'fashionable'?

As the title says... we're torn between two names.
I gave birth a few months ago, but we just can't quite decide which of the two we like better.
We're really debating between Fernando or Matteo. My daughter is named Helena, and I think both names fit well with it.
What we're worried about is that an Italian/Spanish name might sound 'off' for a Dutch child. We definitely don't want that; we're looking for a classic name.
What do you think of when you hear these two names?

The most important thing is that you find the names beautiful.

With Helena, I think Julius, Thijmen, Mathijs, Fabian, or Louis also fit well.

I think Mattheo fits best. Fernando feels a bit 'off', but it's totally your choice of course! I like Helena and Mattheo because of the 2x EE sound.

Matteo is also on my list, so that choice was made quickly

    I'm team Matteo!

    Thanks for your messages!
It will definitely be one of these two names because we really want that Spanish/Italian sound.
Of course, we should find a name we like ourselves, but I absolutely don’t want the name to sound even slightly 'wrong'. And that’s exactly where I’m really struggling, especially with Fernando....

    Tough..haha

Yeah, I think Fernando has a bit more of that vibe than Matteo. I find Matteo a bit more chic.

Team Matteo!! My son's second name is also Matteo!!

By the way, I've been told that MaTTeo is Italian and MaTeo is Spanish...

Thanks for your reply! You're right, I also read that it could be Spanish/Italian because of the T.

I don't think much about these names, not whether they're right or good. Matteo comes across as neat to me, and Fernando feels tough. My preference leans more toward Fernando.

It really depends on your last name, I’d say
For example (assuming he’s not lurking around this forum, lol) I used to have a Justin Gortmaker in my class... I still remember his name, purely because I found the English and very Dutch combination so mismatched He was a really nice guy though.

    I think Matteo is prettier
    Follow your gut feeling,
or wait until the birth and see what fits best

    Here's team Matteo.
Classic and timeless if you ask me.
Fernando has some other associations for some reason.
  13. pingu #14

    I'm also team Matteo!

Matteo feels more settled. I think Fernando is too bold because it's not very common in our area. Besides, I think Matteo is a beautiful name! Good luck!
