Get pregnant quickly

Hi everyone,

It’s so nice that there’s a forum like this!

I’ve had a strong desire for children for years, and recently I got married and my husband is finally ready too. I’d really like a big family (three kids), and I’m already 31. So it would be great if things could happen quickly.

To help things along, I’ve bought ovulation tests. However, I’ve been on the pill for 16 years, and before that, I had a very irregular cycle as a teenager (every two weeks, then nothing for 6 months, etc.). Is it even worth using the ovulation tests next week? Has anyone gotten pregnant right after their withdrawal bleed? Even after such long pill use?

Currently, I’m on day five of my withdrawal bleed. When should I start using the tests? I don’t want to waste all ten of them right away..

Any info is welcome, and otherwise, I’d just love to hear your stories! I don’t really tell people at home that I’m trying, so it’d be nice to share my thoughts here .

Best wishes!

I'd keep an eye on my cycle for about half a year, and if it's still that irregular, I'd give my GP a call. So I'll probably start using ovulation tests right away.

So you've just stopped taking the contraceptive pill? Then expect your cycle to be a bit irregular for a while, even if you mention having had irregular cycles as a teenager. It's quite possible you need to get a better understanding of your cycle first before you can find your fertile days. Ovulation tests are always handy; you could start testing on day 10. I always used the 2BE Sure ones; they were nice and cheap and did a super job.

I wish you lots of luck with getting pregnant. I hope it happens quickly, but bear in mind it could also take a bit longer. This pregnancy took me 20 months, which was pretty intense. Hopefully, you'll be spared that, but keep in mind it might not happen as quickly as described in your title. Welcome, it's nice that you're joining in the conversation. There's also a separate NOD group where you might be able to chat!!

I'm now in round 20 with my regular cycle, and it also took longer with my previous two kids. With my first, my cycle wasn't regular yet. On average, it takes 1 year, and after stopping the pill, it can also take up to 1 year for your cycle to fully recover.

My cycle was pretty much regular right after I stopped the pill (26-28 days). That was 2 years ago though. So I’d been off the pill for 1.5 years when we started our first round. I also use ovulation tests, but even with a regular cycle and ovulation tests, I’m still not pregnant yet, so having an idea of your cycle doesn’t always mean you’ll get pregnant quickly It’s helpful though, of course! I never have to guess when my fertile window is, for example.

    Hi girls,

It really varies from person to person, and as the ladies above already mentioned, keep in mind that it might take longer, but hopefully it’ll just fall into place.

With my first pregnancy, I was pregnant after 3 months; I’d been on the pill for 8 years before that. My cycle was 2 days late the first month, then settled into a regular 28-day cycle.

With my second pregnancy, I got pregnant the first month after stopping the pill; I’d been on it for 1 year before that. However, that ended in a miscarriage, and 2 months later I was pregnant again with my second child.

With my current pregnancy, I got pregnant in the second month after about 2.5 years of pill use. My cycle was regular right away.

I hope you’re blessed with the same and spared the long wait. You don’t “get” children, you “take” them, as I always say. Wishing you all a smooth pregnancy, ladies

    Hi everyone,
It's so nice to read all these replies!
Patience seems to be the main message I'm getting from this. It's great that there's such a supportive group out there in case things don't go as planned... I think you can draw a lot of strength from it !
I'm also a total newbie: What is NOD?
    Best wishes

You'll definitely find lots of support here! It's nice to share all the ups and downs together
ND = Not Due date. The day your period should start, but hopefully not, of course! P

@Line: thanks! I think I'll need to observe a bit more before I know that day... after that, I'd definitely like to join a little group!

You're always welcome to come along and chat without knowing the exact due date. There are still some ladies with irregular cycles, so they don't know their due date exactly either

Hi, I don't think that necessarily means anything. I was on the pill for about 9 years. I stopped and had safe sex for a month. Then we went for the real thing and got pregnant right away. After that, I went back on the pill, and now, 7 years later, I got pregnant on the first try again. So, with a bit of luck My cycle wasn't regular either, and this time I was even 15 kg heavier at the start. I never used ovulation tests. I think you should just see how it goes first. If you have regular sex (doesn't have to be every day), you can wait and see. Good luck with getting pregnant.

It can take up to a year for your cycle to recover, but it doesn't have to be that long. You just need to keep in mind that your cycle needs time to recover first.

I stopped taking the pill after 16 years and never got my period because I got pregnant right away. With the second one, I thought it would happen quickly too, but it took 3 months, then a miscarriage, and then 3 more months before I was pregnant again. So whether you're on the pill or not, it can happen fast or take a long time. Wishing you lots of success anyway.

Keep in mind that 80% are pregnant within a year, so plan for about that period. Maybe you'll get lucky and it'll be faster; I'm thinking almost 2 years.

    Hi everyone,
So it can really go in any direction.. Just wait and see and don't focus too hard on it. The latter will be hard though.. My three sisters-in-law are all pregnant and my best friend too. Every time I see a baby, those tingles come !
