Baby drinking too little at 11 weeks

Our almost 11-week-old baby started drinking poorly about 2 weeks ago due to the heat. Before that, he drank around 800 ml per day. Now we're happy if he reaches 600 ml. He gets 6-7 feeds per day but drinks too little per feed. The maximum is 140 ml. I always prepare a bottle with 150 ml and 5 scoops. We've also tried other formula, and it's going a little bit better. He has reflux and is on medication for it. His weight has barely increased over the past 2 weeks. But he has enough wet diapers. Any tips?

My son was also a really bad feeder. He’d sometimes only drink 100ml per feed when he used to drink 180. He was always long and thin, but I personally never really worried about his weight. Sounds pretty silly maybe, but my thoughts were often “he’ll get hungry on his own and it’ll be fine”. Sounds blunt, but you really can’t force it. If your baby is peeing and pooping well, I wouldn’t worry too much.

I started with practice bites for my son very early on. Already before 4 months. Not everyone will agree with this and the health center wasn’t very happy with me either, but I felt my child needed this. He did those bites super well from the start and is now a tall, slim, energetic boy at 1.5!

So my tip is mainly, please don’t stress too much and do what feels right. You can’t force it anyway and it won’t make your baby happier either! Once he starts losing weight, of course, that’s a different story and then you can always consult a doctor.

Thank you, Nienke. I indeed shouldn't worry too much about the weight. He's satisfied, so everything will probably be fine.
