What do you think of the name Sera?

Hi! I’m Annabel, 31, and married to Noud. Noud has a daughter from a previous relationship, and now I’m pregnant with our first baby together; a girl! We both love original names that don’t need much explanation. So no top-50 names, but still sounding ‘normal’. We’ve scoured all the websites, of course, and then we came across the name SERA. We like the sound and the meaning, but we’re still hesitating. What do you all think of the name Sera? The stress (in our opinion) is the same as in the song Que Sera Sera by Doris Day. The soon-to-be big sister is called Juno (pronounced Juu-noo). I’d love to hear your thoughts, because the due date is getting closer and closer.

How I read it: see-ra (like "zeer" but with an s) and I really like it.
Sera from the song sounds more like: see (sea) - ràh and I wouldn't really guess that spelling.

So how does your name sound? ;-)

If you pronounce it as "See" (sounds like sea) - rah, I'd probably spell it differently.
    Cera / Cerah - Cerà.
I like the sound of this name, but the spelling is a bit less appealing to me.

Nice. It would also look cool with Juno.

It's not my taste. I can't even read it without hearing the song in my head. But it's really about whether you like it, right?

    Sera. No, not my taste.

The names of my kids aren't your taste either. Good thing, because otherwise all classes would be filled with the exact same names.

    Follow your gut.

I can totally relate to what Puck said. I looked up the song and it's really been stuck in my head all day haha

So this is indeed a name that needs some explanation, because I think most people will read it as "see-ra"... which I personally also like better, especially coming from the song... definitely with Juno!

I also thought the pronunciation would be See-rah. Sara, but with an ee.
Maybe the spelling Sèra is another option.
I personally find Sera (See-rah) prettier than Sèra or Sèrra.

Hi! Thanks everyone. The pronunciation in the song is indeed a bit different, but I'm mainly focused on the stress. As you guys put it, I can totally relate to that. I'll bring it up here for discussion. The pronunciation of the first syllable is definitely not "Sèh" (like the e in Ella) nor really "See," like in Romee. To my ears, it sounds more like an "i," similar to the e in "meer," "zeer," and "veer." So it's an e, but with a sort of "i" sound.

If you pronounce it the same as Vera, but with an S, I think it's nice and also fits well with Juno.

I can't believe I didn't think of that. Vera but with an S, indeed! How complicated can I make it, haha!

I wanted to @Anouk, but I made a mistake. The message above is from me, Annabel. Thanks again!

Yes, Sera is such a lovely name! It also fits really well with Juno.

If I wanted to go for the pronunciation like you think you mean, I'd probably adjust the spelling to Serah.
As for the pronunciation like the song, I'd go for Sèrah or Sèra.
  15. MamaAsh #16

Hahaha, I was also making it way too complicated. I read Vera with an S

Beautiful name Sera! Also nice with Juno.

I've heard the name around here once before. It's indeed a name that doesn't come up often, but it's lovely!
I pronounce it like Vera but with an S.
    It goes well with Juno!
