On the pill, pregnant or not?

Hi everyone,

I'm on the pill, but I haven't gotten my period this month. Just once, when wiping, a very tiny, light pink "smear," and otherwise nothing.

I'm already a mom to 4 beautiful boys, and I have a wonderful foster son. So in total, 5 kids.
I've searched myself silly on Google, but I can't find anything that gives me an answer. I did read that it's best to wait until 19 days after the last time we had intercourse to test. Because it's not really clear when you're "late" if you're on the pill. And thus you could get a false negative result. But waiting another 2 weeks in uncertainty is soooo hard. Hence my question here. Could I be pregnant? I hope with all my heart that I'm not! I'm very happy with my already large family and really don't want any more. My first son came despite the pill, my second was planned, my third came despite the pill, and my fourth came despite the NuvaRing. So I'm freaking out now because it really could be possible. And I hope you guys can maybe give me an "answer." Or say that it's possible something else is going on. (Of course you're not doctors, and can't say pregnant/not pregnant) but I just hope to get a better feeling from this so I can get through those 2 weeks without/with less stress.

Thanks in advance for the replies and for taking the time to read this!

Greetings, MamaVan4

No one can give you an answer. Not one that would really help, at least. I’d just take a test. Buy one of those 2-for-4.99 boxes at Kruidvat, then you can take one now and another one later if you’re still unsure.

I agree with Puck. Take a pregnancy test, for example from Kruidvat. If it's negative and you still have symptoms, test again a week later. You can always consult your GP, but unfortunately, we can't give you an answer on whether you might be pregnant. It's possible, so just to be sure, test.

Definitely, since you got pregnant before through conception, I expect the chance to be bigger. It just happens that the pill doesn't work as it should.. good luck

If you're so hoping it's not like that, why don't you let your husband get some help? You've already had two times where you got pregnant despite your contraception, and now you're just going to continue. Unbelievable. But I'm a bit triggered because I'd really like to get pregnant.

I don’t quite get the 2 weeks thing. If you’re 19 days after intercourse (assuming that was exactly when you ovulated), then you’d be 5 days past your “due” date. Normally, you get your period about 14 days after ovulation. If you’re already late, you don’t need to wait another 14 days. The pill prevents ovulation, so if you’ve been taking it properly, the chance of pregnancy is less than 1%. Good luck and stay strong!!

I'll start testing after the weekend. If it's negative, I'll do another test a week later. Then it'll definitely be clear.

Flo, you can wait until 19 days after the last time you had sex before testing, because with the pill it's not clear when conception took place. You can test earlier too, but then you might get a false negative result.

Mila, I completely understand your irritation when reading my topic! If you're trying to conceive, this is the last thing you want to read. Here goes: my husband's sterilization is scheduled, but it hasn't happened yet due to circumstances (one of them being corona). So we're not just "carrying on" as usual. We're taking precautions; there's nothing more we can do. We're fully aware that it could happen. But it still seems unlikely. I take the pill very correctly and on time. I truly hope it's not like that. Things are already very hectic here. I'm more than busy enough. I really don't have the energy to wait for another little one. But if nature decides otherwise, it will be received with lots of love (after the initial shock). Unplanned, but not unwanted. I could never have an abortion.

I just wanted to get it off my chest. (That can do you good sometimes.) Maybe some other ladies here have experienced this too.
Thanks so much for reading and responding!

Strength to you, whatever it may be

Strength! But doesn't your husband use a condom then? If you've already experienced it twice, it seems unsafe for you alone!
