Almost the same name?

What do you think?
We're planning to name our son Boas. Only our niece is named Bo. Do you think this is too similar? Or should it be fine? Would you discuss this?

    Hi Bloempje,
I’d discuss this.. I personally wouldn’t do it myself My nephew is named Louis.. We had chosen Ann-Louise as a girl’s name for our daughter (9 years old) but changed it to Estelle

    Good luck. x

Personally, I think they look way too similar, which is why I can't go with them.

I don't think it looks too much alike, but I'd still avoid it. Especially since Boas will probably be shortened to Bo. Maybe Joas is an idea?

I would totally do it. If you think the name Mooi is nice for your son. Bo links me to a girl and Boas really to a boy! They're two different kids so I don't really get why it would be annoying.

I actually think it's totally fine! It's a boy's name after all, and it's a bit different. Do you guys keep in touch a lot? If you don't see each other that often, I'd just go ahead and do it. If you do see each other often, maybe ask first—it really depends on how close your bond is.

I’d definitely do it! That way, there’s no name left over...

Sorry, but I really don't agree with Flo's reaction.
I assume that a niece or nephew is the child of your brother or sister. In the 1980s, the average number of children per family was 2 (just like now). So if we take a generous view, the average couple would have 6 nieces/nephews on each side. That's 12 in total.
I think you can easily accommodate these names. After all, there are still thousands of names left to choose from.
Plus, you're already doubting whether they sound too similar, and I think that says enough.
If you still want to go with the name, I'd suggest discussing it (provided you're sure they're honest enough to say if they don't like it).

I wouldn't do that. Boas will really be shortened to Bo..
