Klossen under your bed & a creaking mattress...

Over the weekend I finally put those risers under the bed. Wow, that’s so high!!! I have to say I’m not that tall myself (1.61m), but geez, I might as well put a little step next to my bed. It’s quite a climb to get into my bed now. Diving into bed is out of the question. If I take the dive, my head ends up against the side of the bed, haha.

I also put the mattress protector from the maternity pack on my mattress. Unfortunately, that’s no fun for me either. It feels like sleeping on a bag of chips... Besides the creaking, it’s also uncomfortable for your body. I get indentations all over my body from it, and it sleeps really warm.

Enough complaining, haha. Any other ladies who find their bed way too high and don’t like that creaking noise either?

Love,
Anne

We just put bed risers under the bed when I came home from the hospital. We had such a tiny bedroom that seemed even smaller with that high bed, and since I didn't want to/couldn't give birth at home, we didn't need them earlier.

For the mattress protector, I really have the golden tip:
Buy a waterproof molton at Kwantum or Ikea (they're totally cheap). This is a regular molton that's plasticized on the underside!! You can't feel or hear anything, it's maybe a bit warmer than a normal molton but it doesn't creak and stays nicely fitted to your mattress. Really recommend it!!!

I already have a new, super high bed anyway; when I lie in it, I can only see the bassinet's canopy next to me!!
Yeah, I put that mattress protector of mine on today too.
(Just like the one Lexi was talking about)
It basically confirmed: "Oh, now it could really happen any moment!!" Choke!
Not that I'm going to give birth at home (can't do that here, poor me) but just in case my waters break overnight..

@ Anne, hopefully you'll go into labor with the same humor as you write here, girl!!
    Good luck to you too!!

We've decided not to raise the bed.
I'm giving birth in the hospital, and the little one will definitely have to stay there for at least a week, so I won't get any postnatal care either.
Squeaky mats mmm, I'm already sleeping terribly, so that can definitely be added to the list.
I've thought about lying down on the bed this week too. The midwife warned me about a huge waterfall, so I hope a mat will be enough if it happens in bed.

Ps, I'll probably have to stay in the hospital too, very likely due to complications, hence no maternity care.

I’ve also been lying on such a mattress protector for a few weeks now. It’s indeed sticky and I’m sweating buckets, but hey, we just have to think it’s for a good cause.

I totally relate to that story. We have a box spring, which is naturally a bit higher than a regular bed, and if those blocks are underneath it, I'll need a step too. My husband loves it; he's tall, so it's a godsend for him, haha. I haven't put them under yet, but soon I'll have to give in. As for that mattress protector, it's indeed no fun. I'm already so warm at night and sweat a lot; I have a towel next to me because I basically sweat out of the bed, which feels so gross. But well, I guess it all comes with the territory. If everything goes according to plan, I just want to give birth at home. But I'm not sure about that either. We'll just wait and see. Have a nice day, ladies, and enjoy your pregnancies!

With my previous birth, my bed was high enough and he didn't need to use blocks. Since we have a different bed now compared to back then, I'm afraid we might have to raise it. I don't mind sleeping on a high bed because I'm used to my old high bed. But I'm also over 10 cm taller than you, 1.72 (I had to get used to this lower bed earlier ). I'll be in the hospital for sure 3 to 4 days due to a C-section, so I think my partner will only raise the bed when I come home. I'll still have some postpartum care at home for a few days. Since I'm having a planned C-section (so my baby will be born a week before the due date), the chance of my water breaking at home is small, but just to be safe, I'll put one of those waterproof mattress protectors on my mattress by the time I'm 38 weeks, because those loose pads are really nothing, I think. I still have those waterproof mattress protectors from when my daughter was potty trained. I think they're ideal things!
