Echo appointment rescheduled

Hi, I'm a bit worried. Had my first ultrasound yesterday. HCG was 1355 on 27/04. LMP was around 25/04. Should I go by HCG or LMP? According to LMP I'd be 6 weeks 5 days. According to HCG, further along...

Very nice ultrasound, clearly saw and heard the heartbeat. The gynecologist said everything looks very good and it measures 6 weeks 3 days. So a bit behind, by a few days. Anyone has experience with such an ultrasound and still had a good pregnancy? Thanks

Els, what I remember from 2.5 years ago is that you only really know your due date around 12 weeks, because it can still vary, said the midwife back then.

I understand your concern! Have you brought the question up with your midwife/gynecologist? Otherwise, give them a call today for some reassurance. I unfortunately don't have personal experience with this; in my pregnancies so far, I've always been told to take it easy. Strength!!

I was even put back two weeks once, but everything was fine! She's now 2 years old and is a cheerful girl!

The midwife said it looked good and that we’ll be able to see progress at the next ultrasound, which is in two weeks. She didn’t think it was abnormal. So I’ll just have to wait and see. I don’t know when my ovulation was. Only an estimated date.
Every pregnancy can go two ways, good or bad... I know, I just really want to know if there are other people with positive experiences.

I’ve had 3 pregnancies behind me, or well, I’m currently pregnant with the 3rd. With all 3, I had an ultrasound around 7 weeks, and the due date was pushed back a few days, then moved forward again at the dating scan. The longest difference was 5 days shorter than I thought.
At such an early stage, they can’t measure exactly, and 1mm can already mean a few days’ difference. I wouldn’t worry too much. Enjoy your pregnancy. Miscarriage is always possible, but we can’t control that.

Thanks for your reply! That really puts me at ease!!

My experience is that at that stage it's still very hard to measure, and everything is so small that 1 mm can already mean a few days' difference. So I think the difference is small enough; I'd have confidence in it myself. I'd also go by Nod's measurement; in my opinion, it's more reliable than hCG testing (which varies a bit from person to person). With my second pregnancy, I thought I was between 7.5 and 8.5 weeks, but it turned out to be just 7 weeks. That was unfortunately wrong at the 11-week scan. I already had a bad feeling about it. So with my third pregnancy, I had an early scan, I think at 6 weeks and 3 days (approximately, I don't remember the exact date anymore). Then he told me that measurements at that stage aren't that accurate because they can vary so easily. Take it easy and wait, and I'll be rooting for you that you'll soon see a beautiful baby at around 8 weeks and a few days.

Thanks Anne. Indeed, if I go by the due date, the difference is only 2 days, so that puts me at ease. I believe in it, I have a good feeling this time.

As long as it's just a 2-day difference from what he thought, there's nothing to worry about; it's within the margin of measurement. If the baby is positioned slightly differently or if there's another measurement, it might come out on a different day. Nothing to stress about at this stage.

Thanks anonymous for your reply The first weeks are always so exciting and sometimes worrying.
