We're torn between two names. We're looking for a fairly classic name that's nice to shorten.

    I think both could work well, classic but not old-fashioned! I voted for Julius, I like the sound of it better. I do think Alexander has a nice sound, but Alex feels quite 'harsh'. Good luck with your choice!

    I really like Jules/Juul as a nickname, and Julius is nice too! I don't find Alexander very appealing, but Lex is nice. Alex isn't so great, but Alec is. I don't like Xander/Sander either.

    I like Julius, Alexander less so, but I do find Alexander easier to shorten.
