Menstrual cycle

Hi everyone,
I stopped taking the pill earlier this year after using it for about 15 years. I always had a break week and didn’t take the pill continuously, but I thought it was wise to stop in time to see if I’d get my period quickly and to get to know my menstrual cycle.
After the withdrawal bleed (I had taken the full pill strip), I got my first 'real' period quite soon. If I calculate my cycle from the first day of my withdrawal bleed, the first cycle lasted 30 days. The next one was 24 days, and the (so far) last one was 23 days. Day 1 is the day my period started, and the last day is the one before I got my next period. So my way of counting is correct, right? I just wanted to ask if a cycle of 23 or 24 days is already considered short? Next month we’d like to start trying for a baby, so I’d like to know roughly when I’m fertile. I’m not going to start with ovulation tests right away, but I’d like to kind of 'calculate' it. Is it about 14 days before the period, or with a short cycle, is it fewer days before the period?
Thanks! (Hopefully I can join a NOD group soon!)

They’re a bit short, doesn’t mean anything. Having sex 3 times a week is enough to get pregnant spontaneously. Keep an eye on it if everything works as it should. That way it stays fun for both of you too.

In your case, I’d definitely pay attention starting from day 10.

Thanks for your reply! I was a bit scared that they were too short to have had ovulation, but online it says that a cycle of 21 days or more is okay, so I’ll just assume that’s the case. I’m now waiting for my next period. This cycle has already lasted 22 days.

When you ovulate, you never know exactly when, unless you feel it, of course. I have a 26-day cycle. (I always counted the first day of my period as day 1, and then I got my period again on day 26, so it’s actually a 25-day cycle?) On day 16, I had a positive ovulation test, and exactly 10 days later, I got my period. So I’d say you should give yourself a bit more leeway when it comes to your fertile window. But if you’re having sex regularly anyway, there shouldn’t be any problem.

Thank you, Puck! So it's definitely not always just 14 days for everyone in the phase after ovulation. We'll keep it fun and try to have sex every other day, when we feel like it, of course.
Oh yes, I'd say 25 days for you, but I'm not sure if that's accurate.

It's day 28 now and waiting Not at all regular, but that's normal after using the pill. It's only going to be hard to determine when it's necessary!

You could use ovulation tests if you really want to be sure, but I understand you'd rather wait on that for now

That's right, Lijn. If my cycle stays irregular and pregnancy doesn't happen after a few rounds (we're starting next month), then I'll do that.
