Ovulation test as a pregnancy test

Hi there,

I'm currently about a week overdue (I think). I still had an ovulation test lying around and took one today. There was a clear line, but not as clear as the control line. I know that an ovulation test can pick up on hCG, but my question is: is it always the case that an ovulation test shows a darker and faster line than a pregnancy test? I've now bought a pregnancy test but I'm afraid of being disappointed and want to know what to expect.

Thanks!

    A week overdue, testing!
We really can't give an answer on the ovulation test. Let us know if you find out?

An ovulation test works similarly to a pregnancy test in that it picks up rising hCG levels. But it really depends on when you test. If you're truly a week late, both an ovulation test and a pregnancy test should light up. For me, the line was really darker than dark on the ovulation test a few days after my missed period. But I still got a faint line on a pregnancy test at 9 dpo. I had both types of tests at home and just tested with a pregnancy test, but also tried the ovulation tests for fun. Both started showing lines from 8 dpo onwards. The ovulation test picked it up a bit faster. But to be sure, always use a pregnancy test.

An ovulation test does react to hCG, but it's not as reliable as a pregnancy test. If you really want to know for sure if you're pregnant, you should take a pregnancy test.

I understand it can be stressful, but I only had ovulation tests left at the time too, so I used those and got two lines every day. Then I took a pregnancy test and yes, I was pregnant.

So it's definitely possible! But you'll only know for sure with a pregnancy test.

Flo, the tests are picking up on hCG. If you're a week overdue, you might even get a faint line with an ovulation test. I had that myself, and after a few days, it got darker. But to be sure it's a normal pregnancy, just take a proper pregnancy test. They're much more reliable. Let me know if you find out more.
