GP or gynecologist?

Hi hi. Just a quick question from me.

My partner and I have been trying to conceive a second baby for a year now. Last cycle, I was finally 2 days late, took a pregnancy test, but only saw a faint line if you held the test at a very sharp angle to the light. Then I suddenly started bleeding, heavily for days and days (sorry!), but no cramps. I usually have pretty bad cramps during my period. So just to be sure, I took another pregnancy test a few days later. Same story again, only a faint line at an angle. So now I don't know if it was a late period or a very early miscarriage! And that's actually quite important for the question of whether we are still fertile, because apparently that's not a given even if you already have a child together, which was over 4 years ago.

In the meantime, I've had tender breasts and more discharge than usual. What should I do? I actually made a video of that pregnancy test and sent it to Kruidvat; they said they'd forward it to the head office or something, but I haven't heard anything back. It seems unlikely that I'm still pregnant. But well, the body can sometimes work in mysterious ways.

Anyway, I really want to go to the doctor by now, because a year has passed and we're not getting any younger. You don't want to find out a year later that there was a reason all along why it wasn't working. But my partner doesn't want to go to the doctor yet; he thinks it's nonsense because he already has kids, so I should just be patient. So I want to go myself, but well... Am I being too impatient? And if the GP refers me to a gynecologist anyway, wouldn't it be better to just go straight to a gynecologist?

Best, Selby

I'd give your GP a call to discuss it. Anyway, in the Netherlands you usually need a referral from your GP to go to the hospital, due to insurance.

Sorry it's not working out for you either. We've been at it for 3 years too. Can't figure out why it's taking so long. We're already in the medical system, but unfortunately no further progress yet. IUI didn't work out for us.

Keep in mind that the medical process is also very slow. After the first round of tests, they sent us home for another year to keep trying.

If you're from Belgium, go straight to the gynecologist ha will just refer you anyway. You can get a sperm test there, but since your husband isn't open to it, I'd go straight to the gynecologist.
