Alexis or Alexander

We're having a boy in July and looking for a classic boy's name. We really like something with Alex, and we came across Alexis this weekend. What do you think of this name for a boy?

    I think Alexander is nicer.

I think Alexis is a girl's name, a really beautiful one, by the way. Alexander sounds nicer for a boy, I think.

Alexis is a pretty name, but it's for a girl. I don't think it's nice for a boy. Then I'd rather go for Alex or Alexander. I think Lex is even nicer and cooler, but that's not so classic, of course.

I know both a boy and a girl with this name, so it works for both. It's pronounced differently though. The boy's version is French, and the girl's is English. I think the English girl's version fits best.

I think Alexis is a girl's name. Alexander isn't really my taste, but it's fine for a boy.

Sorry, I don't find either of them beautiful.
I still think Alec is nice.

For a boy, it would be Alexander for us, and for a girl, Alexis. Our daughter (almost 2 by now) is now called Alexis.
So, I wouldn't recommend Alexis for a boy, obviously, haha.

Thanks everyone! Alexander is indeed a nice and easy short form for Alex.

Alexander is indeed nice. Friends will probably call him Alex.
I agree with the others about Alexis.
I also think Alec is nice. But that's your personal preference. I guess you prefer longer first names?
