Hi everyone, does anyone else find it nearly impossible to come up with a name when you're pregnant? It's really frustrating! It makes me so restless...

We're expecting a girl and have come up with two names so far:
Veyen
or
Mell

How do these names strike you: sweet, tough, nice, smooth...? Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I’m kind of meh about it. Mell feels like it’s either not quite finished or people will probably keep asking how to spell the name. And when she’s older (I assume?), I’d think she’d be someone in a bit of an identity crisis, actually named Melanie, but now wanting to call herself semi-cool Mell. Veyen I find better then—it really feels like a name. Though I’d also be afraid that my child would constantly have to explain how to spell it.
And yeah! Hormones and baby names are intense. Ultimately it’s about taste, and there’s no right or wrong. If you like it, go for it!

I'm sorry, but I don't find them all that beautiful. Of course, you should just decide what you want.
    My opinion:
Veyen, do you pronounce it as Feeën/Veeën? A bit weird. Vayen is nicer then, except the translation to Turkish isn't...
Mell: with one L it's already better, but I really see it as an abbreviation of Melanie. But Mel Wallis de Vries is a well-known writer, so Mel does exist. So I'd go for that too if you choose these two.

Other options in the same vein:
Mia Faye Mae Leah Danae Sera Maya Aya Ava Kyra Yva Ylva Ivy

I don't find either name beautiful, especially not the spelling. I think she'd always have to spell her name.
Vajèn or Elle, on the other hand, I find quite nice, especially the latter name.

I don’t think Mell is beautiful. I see it more as an abbreviation of Melanie, indeed. But not as a name. I don’t think Veyen is so great either, but it’s better than Mell. I think Vayèn or Vajèn are much prettier!
Or maybe Vièn is something else?

    Thanks for your replies.
I'm most hesitant about Veyen (pronounced Veejen), my husband loves it. Both like the name Fay, but it's too short and they don't like the spelling. Vaye is nicer, and then preferably with something after it.
And I'm really fond of Mell, it's smooth and cool, but my husband isn't convinced yet. We don't worry too much about spelling her name; nowadays there are so many ways to spell everything.
What else could possibly go after Ve/Vay?

Or maybe Fayé is another option? I really think it's a beautiful name! (But then pronounced Fay-jee, so not like fairy)

    Felien! Pronunciation: fee-lien

We find a lot of names too sweet; we prefer something more tough.
We came across Veda yesterday on a site and we both like it—it feels like a strong name, good option Lou. Is it too unusual?

I personally find Veda less unique than Veyen and Mell. Mell is nice, but only as a short form of Melanie/Melany.
    Nice name, Veda!

I've come up with Velin and Veona.

I personally think Véda is really beautiful. It sounds easy and familiar to the ear, but it's actually a unique name. Good, strong sound.

Start to doubt Veda, the "da" sounds so hard maybe. Velin, who is mentioned, is also quite nice!
  13. Lou Guest #14

I think Velin sounds a bit weird. I'd go for Felin(e) instead. But the sound is nice.
  14. Anonymous Guest #15

And Vaylin or Vaelin? We think the V "looks nicer" than the F..
  15. Anonymous Guest #16

I think Veda is still the best option, or Vienna/Vienne.
  16. Anonymous Guest #17

I don't think Velin/Vaylin/Vaelin are beautiful at all. I do like Elin.

Names I find beautiful with a v are:

    Vajèn, Venna, Veerle, Viënna

    Maybe you can use this?

I think Vida is really nice, I picture a cool, tough girl with that name. But Veda is nice too. I get why the "da" part feels harsh. I'd also rather choose a V than an F, but my son still has a name with an F because it looked better in the full name. Stick it on the mirror for a while and you'll get used to the name as a whole more easily.

Thanks again for thinking along with me.
Vida isn't really my style. The tip about sticking the name on the mirror is a good one!
I've come up with two other names in the past two days, going well pfff. Vedi and Nandi. Curious to see what people think of those!

Maybe Vayda (pronounced like Veda but spelled differently)
