Breech position at 35 weeks and 5 days and external cephalic version

Hi everyone,
I have an appointment tomorrow at the hospital to have our baby turned. He’s been in a breech position for quite a while, with his head between my breasts and his legs up. I’m curious if there are any women who can give me a little info on how it all goes and share their experiences? I have to admit I’m quite nervous. At first, I thought a C-section might be easier for me than a natural birth, but I realize now that I may have underestimated it!

Greetings,
Bo

    Hi Bo,

In May last year, they did a version (as it’s so nicely called) on me too. I was pretty nervous about it. Especially with the idea in the back of my head that it doesn’t even work in half of the cases. Our son was lying with his head up and legs down.

When I arrived at the hospital, I was told to report to the maternity ward. They do the version in a birthing room there because they have everything on hand. First, they put a band around my belly to see how the little one was doing. That took about 30-45 minutes. Then they did an ultrasound to check how the umbilical cord was positioned. After that, a nurse and a gynecologist came in. The gynecologist grabbed the little one and started pushing from one side, feeling how the little one shifted with his hand. To be honest, it does involve some pushing on your belly which isn’t very pleasant, but it’s not particularly bad either. Then the little one flipped perfectly. Another ultrasound afterward to make sure everything was in the right position. To see if the little one liked being back in the other position, they did a CTG for half an hour, and then I could go home.

If I can give you one more tip: bring someone with you, and after that, go home and take it easy for a bit. My belly felt like one big bruise afterward.

Fortunately, I was able to give birth to our son Lars naturally on 30-5.

    Best regards, Charlotte

Hi there, I’ve experienced both. The turning around wasn’t fun at all; she flipped back and it hurt. But I have to say, I didn’t know then that there were two little ones messing around in my belly. When the doctor came in, it got better, but for me, it felt pointless. I thought, “Great, easy, I’ll just have a C-section; that’s nice and easy.” But nothing could be further from the truth for me back then. I had a lot of back labor, and I didn’t find recovery to be a success either. I’m glad I can just give birth naturally now, but I have no experience with that. I was happy about the C-section too, but in the end, I regretted it, though I didn’t have much choice medically at the time. Now I hope the birth goes well, because the horror stories don’t make me happy. Love, Karina. It’ll definitely work out with you.
