Which of the 3

I have a top 3 for names and find it hard to choose.
-Vilou
-Nanou
-Vaye
Which one do you like the best and why? Do you hear the name a lot or not at all? I'm curious whether my preference will be strengthened by positive or negative reactions.
Thanks in advance!

    I only like Nanou.
Vilou is just another way of writing Philou. I personally don’t think it’s a beautiful name, but tastes differ.
Vaye... it looks like Vayen without the n. To me, it doesn’t come across as a name.

    Thanks for your reply.
And you're right about the spelling of Vilou, I think it looks nicer than the other way and it's indeed personal. Just like Vaye, pronounced as Faye, but I don't find it with an F particularly special or nice.

I also think Nanou is a beautiful name!
The other 2 names I find a bit bizarre and would never choose myself.

I think Philou is prettier than Vilou. Vaye sounds nice, but in terms of spelling, I'm most fond of Fae. Nanou is cute.

I like all three names, but personally I'd go with the standard spelling. That's just my opinion though. Philou is a bit trendy, and you hear Faye quite often. In that regard, I think Nanou is the most original, if you like that.

Vaye only looks nice to me if it's pronounced Fayé (fa-jee) and not like Fae/fairy.
    Vayèn I find nice then.

Nanou and Vilou aren't really my thing either. Then I think Filou is nicer.

It feels weird to suddenly pronounce a name that starts with an F sound with a V sound. If it's spelled Fay, it's pronounced like "fee"; if it's Vay, it's pronounced like "vee". You wouldn't suddenly start pronouncing it with an F sound.

    Hi!
Philou and Fay are nice too! But then not Vilou and Vaye, I think you'd have to spell your name your whole life. Also, I don't find those spellings really beautiful, quite weird.

Funny to see that my spelling is seen as special, different, or weird.
Thanks for your honest opinions, more are still welcome.

I'm not really into it either. Honestly, I don't find any of them beautiful. Nanou really seems like a strange name to me. But if you love it, that's totally fine. I'd lean more towards Milou, Vajèn, or Faye.

Good luck! It's your taste and choice after all. Hope you find what you're looking for.

Nanou is pronounced as Na-noe. And yeah, I do like unique names. I like Faye, but not the "F" sound, hence the "V".
I also think, for example, Cloé can be pronounced as Clo-wee or Clo-wie... nowadays you have to spell everything out, so many variations.
But I enjoy reading your feedback. Thanks!

Sorry, I also don't find any of the names or spellings beautiful. I understand you want something original, but then I'd really look for a less common name instead of a trendy name with a - in my eyes - weird spelling. But well, it's your choice, of course.
  13. Anonymous Guest #14

Yeah, pronunciation is a thing with many names. It also comes from the fact that internationally, names are pronounced differently.

But honestly, I wasn't sure whether Vaye should be pronounced vaa-yee or like fay but with a v.

I wouldn't initially give it the pronunciation faa-yee anyway, since you write it with a v, not an f.

Same with Vilou; I'd pronounce it vie-lou, not fie-loe.

Wanting to be original also means accepting that people won't see it your way. Personally, I'd choose a name where changing a letter changes the name itself, not just the sound. Like Philou and Milou.

That's definitely something we're now thinking about because of all the reactions. If many people read the name differently than we intended, that's not what we're aiming for. We hadn't even seen Va-yee before, so it's nice to have this in mind. We don't think the difference between Fi-lou and Vi-lou is that big, so that's fine. And Nanou is pretty clear, right?
  15. Anonymous Guest #16

Cloé is pronounced with the é like a long "e" sound, so it's Clo-wee.
    With ë it's clo-wie.

I'd pronounce Vaye as vaa-juh or vaa-jee. If you want the pronunciation to sound like Fee, I'd go with Fay, Fee, or Faye. Vilou sounds a bit odd with the "v".
I don't think they're really beautiful names. Nanou is the best, but it's not really my thing either.
  16. Anonymous Guest #17

    Of Nanouck?
  17. Anoniem started this #18

Thanks for thinking along with me. I find Nanouck sounds a bit harsher because of the K, and her middle name is Lois, so that needs to fit too.
What a difficult thing a name can be; some just come so easily... impressive.
