Getting pregnant after the contraceptive injection

Hi everyone,
I'm new here and curious about your experiences with the birth control shot. I got my last injection last December, so it should have worn off by February. After lots of Googling and stuff, I read it can take up to a year (or even longer) before you can get pregnant again...
My partner and I stopped the shot because we want to conceive. I got my period for the first time three months ago. Before that, I had some brown discharge, but it was occasional and not regular. Now I'm on a 29-day cycle. I've also started using ovulation tests this month (out of curiosity) to see if I'm even ovulating at all. But I assume I am since I've had my period.
Do you have any tips? How long did it take for you? Or are you still trying...
Hopefully, I'll get some tips and tricks????

Yes, I have experience with the Depo-Provera shot, though it was a few years ago. They recommend waiting at least a year after stopping the shot before trying to conceive. I experienced it differently, though; I was pregnant almost immediately after the last shot wore off. You kind of know it's possible, but it still came as quite a shock how fast it happened. So I think it varies a lot from person to person and multiple factors are at play.

    Tnt.
Did you go to the doctor before you got pregnant? If so, how long did it take before you had your first prenatal visit?

I did have some bleeding after the 3-month mark, but I don't know exactly when or how long it lasted. I wasn't too worried about it.

    Tnt,
    Thank you for your story.
    It gives me some hope!

I actually stopped the contraceptive pill on Oct 1st. Haven't had a period yet.

But I have a few symptoms that make me think it's coming.
What I find weird is that about 2 weeks ago I was in the supermarket and suddenly got a really sharp stab in my groin/uterus area (not sure exactly). The days after, I always had the feeling that if I was outside or shopping or whatever, I was about to pee my pants or was walking around with a wet crotch (sorry, but I don't know how else to explain it). I had one day of nagging headache all day and one morning I felt nauseous when I got out of bed. This was after that sharp stab!

Now, about 2 weeks later.. I have lower back pain, breasts are tight, nipples are sensitive to touch. Occasionally little twinges in the lower abdomen. And a heavy feeling in the lower abdomen. In the late afternoon I'm really, really tired.. but this could also be from work or a busy schedule.

I don't know what my cycle is.
I haven't tracked whether I've ovulated.. so I know absolutely nothing. I also don't know when to expect my period. If these are signs of my period, then it can come very quickly for me. Then the party can start!

What I keep wondering is, can you get pregnant after stopping the contraceptive pill without having had a period first? Or does your period have to come first?

You can always get pregnant before you’ve had an MS flare. If your egg matures, you can get pregnant. Have you taken a test yet?

    Floor..
    No, I haven't tested yet..
There's actually quite a story behind it..
Nine months ago, after trying for 4 years and having a miscarriage, we decided to start the injection pill again. So I've picked it up 3 times, once every 3 months.
Now we've decided to see how things go again. But without any medical conditions.. just trying naturally.. During those 4 years, I was way too focused on it.. Now I've actually not been thinking about it at all. Only that heavy feeling in my stomach keeps me somewhat occupied.

Oh my, what a spicy past! I totally get it, then stopping the mini-pill is definitely tricky because you just don't know how long it'll take, and of course you don't want to be testing for months. Maybe take another look and carefully watch for any symptoms... or go ahead and test, but I understand that's not nice either.

The chance that it's withdrawal bleeding is actually quite high; it's said to cause similar symptoms to pregnancy. I think the only thing you can do is take a test to rule it out, or maybe you're just pregnant. It's also common for your period to be absent for months after stopping the pill, so if you're unsure, just take a test—they're practically free these days.

I also had a whole period after stopping my contraceptive pill where I thought every time it was a hit, but it really was indeed "un-pilling" according to the doctor.. maybe and hopefully you'll have more luck

Thank you ladies for your kind responses!

I'll just wait a bit longer. The MS will have to come eventually. Luckily, there's plenty to keep me busy next month!!

    Good luck to you too!

Ugh, I've been dealing with heartburn since this afternoon.

    Lady,
Oei, have you already done a test?
    Or not?
    Greetings!
  15. Lady #16

No, not tested yet... I know my body can play tricks on me by now.

If the symptoms persist, my period will eventually have to come. If it continues and my period doesn't show up, I'll take a test. I'll wait it out this coming week.

Did a test last night and it's negative. Still have symptoms though. So I'm ready for my period to come!
It could also be way too early though because I don't know where I am in my cycle right now.

Oh that's sad.. but glad it's okay now.. congratulations.

Before I went to get my birth control pill 9 months ago, I often had tender breasts too, but usually just for 1 day and then the next day I got my period.
Now I've had breast discomfort for about 4 days, with a real pulling pain (growth pain), I don't know how else to describe it. Bloating in my stomach. A pair of pants that always felt comfortable now doesn't feel good around my waist anymore. Occasional heartburn and headache last night. Usually when I was 2 days late with getting my pill refill, I already had bleeding. Since stopping on Oct 1st, no bleeding or anything yet. Hope it comes soon, days!
