When is the blood test reliable?

Hi everyone

I went to the doctor yesterday with lower abdominal pain (on the right side). I'd had the pain for a few days already, so my doctor took some blood to check a few things, including inflammation markers in my intestines, but also pregnancy. I thought that was a bit odd, because I felt it was too early to have 'symptoms' so soon after ovulation, but she said it could be.

Today I was allowed to call back for the results, and both tests were negative. In other words: not pregnant. I don't like holding on to false hope, but what I find strange, and what I told her during the blood draw, is that my ovulation didn't start until 4/9 (I used ovulation tests for the first time, so I know this for sure). That means I could only have been fertilized for 5 days at the time of the blood test.

I feel silly questioning my doctor now, but I read everywhere that you can only measure blood values between 6 and 8 days after conception. Is a pregnancy detectable that early via a blood test? (ovulation test positive since 4/9, doctor's appointment 9/9)

Would love to hear your experiences

Love

No, if you're not implanted yet, you don't have hCG in your blood either. So testing negative now doesn't mean you won't get pregnant this cycle. But then you also can't have pain from it yet. I assume you want to know where the pain is coming from, and that's what the doctor was looking into, I guess.

    Hi!
I had a lot of pain and cramps on the right side a week after my expected ovulation (that’s the side where I had surgery for an ectopic pregnancy).
My gynecologist said that my ovulation was probably later than expected.
I got a negative pregnancy test on my expected period date, and only a few days later tested positive.
The hCG levels also show that I’m a week less pregnant than expected, so it was indeed a late ovulation!
So it’s still possible, keep believing!!
