Hi everyone! I’m 19 weeks pregnant tomorrow. It’s my first pregnancy, and I’ve heard that some women feel their baby at 18 weeks, but I haven’t felt anything at all. Is this normal?
Hey Marian,
I'm also 19 weeks pregnant and only just now I'm sure I can feel my baby. That felt so weird because it's my second pregnancy. Two weeks ago we found out that the placenta is located at the front, so I only feel it at the bottom of the uterus and a bit to the left. Maybe that's also the case for you, or maybe you don't recognize the feeling yet. It will come, don't worry. But I do understand that you're getting impatient ;-).
Greetings, Anne
@Marian,
I'm pregnant with my third baby, and I didn't feel anything at first either. I even read that some women feel it as early as 8 weeks, which is really not true. I asked my gynecologist about it, and she said... It varies from one woman to another...
Some feel it as early as 18 weeks during their first pregnancy, while others feel it at 23 weeks.
There's nothing more different than a hormonal female body..
It only started for me at week 21 with little kicks, and then it became more and more.
And now that little baby sometimes kicks so hard that I have to protect my ribcage with my hand, otherwise he'll bruise it.. (which has already happened, ouch)..
But anyway, I can totally understand that you're worried because of what you're reading,
so if you'd feel better, I'd call VK or the Gyn if I were you. I don't know who or what you're dealing with.
Hopefully, I've been able to reassure you a bit, at least a little bit then :-)
I felt the first one at 16 weeks and the second at 13 weeks:-)
But this varies so much from person to person!
It also depends on where the placenta is located...
Don't worry, you'll definitely feel your baby soon!
It's really normal, Marian! I don't believe there are women who feel their babies at 8 weeks either; that's just not possible! It'll happen naturally, don't worry!
Hi Marian, I'm also expecting my first baby.
Although I was lucky to feel our girl already at 13-14 weeks with light plops and tickles, and my partner could feel and see her kicking at 16 weeks. But my doctor thought it was very strange and said this absolutely couldn't be the case until she even felt it when she wanted to start doing an ultrasound. And she told me that with your first pregnancy you usually don't know what to feel for yet, and that you often only feel it around 20-24 weeks. Which is perfectly normal if you haven't felt it yet. I was lucky to experience this so quickly... which only happens in very few cases. I was one of the few women who got to experience this so early, my gynecologist said... but of course, with a second baby, I might have to wait just as long, right.. you will feel your little one It won't be long before it shows up, just a little patience and before you know it, you'll feel him/her And you can enjoy the movements and some discomforts as they start kicking vigorously hihi...
With the first one, I only felt movement around 17–18 weeks, which apparently is still quite early. Many women don’t feel anything until around 20 weeks, and it’s also possible that, for example, your placenta is “in the way.”
With the second one, I felt movement as early as 14 weeks, but then you know what to look for, and your uterine wall is also much thinner.
