Evening primrose oil

Anneke
Started taking evening primrose oil this month to get my cycle back on track. After my miscarriage, my cycles were 32, 29, and 30 days. I'm now a week past ovulation and had a bit of brown discharge yesterday. Could this really be my period? Does anyone know if evening primrose oil shortens your cycle before or after ovulation? I stopped taking it after ovulation and switched to wheat germ oil.

Hi Anneke, you should stop evening primrose oil from the moment you ovulate. Wheat germ oil is okay to use—I used it for one month and got pregnant right away. Unfortunately, I had a miscarriage now. Hope it helps you, girl, good luck!

I also stopped from my ovulation But now, if I already had my period, I'd find it very early.

Hi Anneke, I also took 2 weeks of evening primrose oil myself. Then nothing. I got pregnant in that same cycle. My cycle is normally always 24/25 days and now the due date is exactly 8 days later than I had calculated myself, assuming a 25-day cycle. Then my ovulation should have been almost on the day of my period. It's hormonal, so I think every body reacts differently to it. It's still a wait-and-see before you get an answer. Hard, isn't it, that waiting. Days can then feel so long.. Good luck and hopefully a positive result!

Why did you take it then if you had a cycle of 24/25 days? Or am I misunderstanding? I started because my cycles were a bit longer than 28 days.

I used wheat germ oil back then, and it totally messed up my whole cycle. I used to have a 28/29-day cycle, but this time it was 42 days. Be careful with that stuff.

My ovulation was on day 14, and normally you get your period 14 days after that. So it can't really be a very long month, unless I'm pregnant

I understood it was to get hormones active. Since we had been looking forward to a pregnancy for 7 years, I thought I'd give it a try. Not to shorten the cycle... maybe I was a bit naive, but I was pregnant the same month anyway

    Wow, super!
    It's still quite suspenseful here...

Huh, what exactly is irregular if your cycles are between 29 and 32 days? That's not irregular at all!

Oh yeah, you'll probably say in six months that evening primrose oil worked. After all, most women get pregnant within the first year; most women on forums start doubting after 3 months and try everything with evening primrose oil, wheat germ oil, other pills, etc. Without these changes, they probably would have gotten pregnant at the same time anyway; it just sometimes takes a while. And there's nothing wrong with that!

It has never been scientifically proven that those little oils and pills work.

But if it works in your head, that's already pretty good

I’ve stopped taking those pills. And I think if you haven’t experienced a miscarriage yourself with your first child, you don’t really have the right to speak on this, and you can’t imagine how I’m feeling. And I was pregnant the first time after 4 months without any pills!

When you've experienced a miscarriage, you try everything to get pregnant again as quickly as possible. Sorry for the frustrated post, but this one just rubbed me the wrong way.

Oh Anneke, indeed, you'd better not judge and say someone can't say anything, because you don't know if someone has had a miscarriage.

Check, it took cytotec, two hysteroscopies, and half a year of patience.
Does that make the story suddenly very different?

Anoniem, it seems to me that no one wants value judgments. Ultimately, getting pregnant is a thrilling and often emotional matter for everyone. I think you come to a forum to get information and safely ask your questions, not to be dismissed. I understand your message, but it's the tone that sets the music.

I would say that a cycle of 25-30 days is normal and (still) no reason to use this kind of hormone influence. I would find that exciting too. And Anoniem is right: sometimes it just takes a while. Although you naturally become insecure about it and want to do everything to get pregnant. But I have learned one thing from wanting children to being a mother: it's one big process of letting go and trusting. You can't control everything. Anyway, I hope it becomes positive again soon.

    Sorry, 300 typos, wasn't intentional.
