Hi, I'm Yana, and my partner and I have a strong desire for a baby. I stopped taking the pill in March. My cycle is still very irregular right now... we're having sex 2-3 times a week, yet I'm still not pregnant. Every day feels so long... you really want something to happen, but it just doesn't. I was wondering how long it can take for your cycle to regulate after stopping the pill, and how quickly you can get pregnant after discontinuing it? Thanks!

Hi Yana, exciting and fun that you're trying. On average, it can take up to a year to get pregnant, and coming off the pill takes a few months too; for me, it took three, I think. Having sex 2-3 times a week is good, but during your fertile week, having sex every other day should work best. But I'm not pregnant myself either, so take it with a grain of salt!

    Hi Yana,
I’ve always heard that your body doesn’t need any time at all to shed the pill. As soon as you stop taking the pill, you’re actually fertile again. There can be many reasons why pregnancy might not happen right away, but you’ve only been off the pill for 4 months. I wouldn’t worry too much for now.

Yana, I totally get the tension. I got pregnant quickly too, but that was definitely no rule. Some women don't get a cycle for months on end. If you haven't heard anything for four months now, it's wise to get in touch with the health center or your GP. They can check if something else is going on. In the meantime: try to keep the pressure off, it often doesn't help either.
