What do you think of Maite?

My friend came up with the name MAITE for our upcoming daughter. I still need to get used to it, but I'm starting to like it more and more. What do you all think?

    How do you pronounce this? Maaite, meete, maté, mate, not? I think the kid will have to explain/correct their name a lot.

    And I would just pronounce it as Mette. Well, that's how it would sound in my pronunciation of ai.

    Thanks for the quick replies. I'm not sure about the pronunciation myself either, but I assume you pronounce it like you write it? So basically like Maaike, but with a t instead of a k.

    I’d really pronounce Maite with an "ai" sound.
    And Maaike is more elongated, like "aai." So in my opinion, there is a difference in pronunciation.

    I think Maite is a lovely name!

    I think it's such a lovely name. By chance, I just read a newspaper article where the name appeared, and I thought to myself: I'll drop it by my husband. But we don't know the gender yet.
    I would put an accent on it myself: Maité... so that you pronounce it as "maj-thee".
