Miscarriage, should I go ahead with the 3rd IUI attempt?
Dear everyone,
We wanted to start our 3rd IUI attempt and had already taken my medication out of the fridge. But I thought, hmm.. This period is actually different than usual. It didn't really come through. So I told my boyfriend, let's just do a test first. He looked at me like, why? Another waste of money for probably nothing. Plus, the chance was much smaller this time because of his low sperm count. I did the test and actually put it away again. Took it out of the kitchen again, just to take one more look before throwing it away. I look... and yes! A (extra) line. I didn't know what I was seeing. After 2.5 years, all kinds of tests, 2nd (thankfully) IUI attempt, pregnant!? My boyfriend looks at me and tears well up in my eyes. He didn't know how fast he needed to come to the kitchen too. Yes, a line, he says. Stunned, we held each other for 10 minutes.
Called the hospital and made an appointment for a first ultrasound at 7 weeks and 5 days.
Unfortunately, it went wrong yesterday at 6 weeks. Already some bleeding on Friday evening and more intense yesterday morning. Called the fertility clinic and because they understood I couldn't wait the whole weekend, I could come in for an ultrasound a few hours later. Somewhere I already knew, but the ultrasound confirmed that there was nothing more to see. Because I still had a positive pregnancy test in the morning, they wanted to do it one more time. But that also confirmed the nightmare, that it was true. If you want, you can start with the medication again on Tuesday for a new IUI attempt.
Sad about what you've lost, we are somehow still positive. It has turned out that with his swimmers and my eggs we might one day welcome a miracle into this world.
But now, 24 hours later, I don't know anymore. Whether or not to start medication again on Tuesday for a new attempt. So fast.. We wanted to do 1 more IUI attempt before getting married on 19-09. But then I found out I was pregnant. Will we still do 1 more attempt after the miscarriage before getting married? Now that we're getting busier with the wedding preparations, maybe it's actually positive to do 1 more attempt, because with the preparations we'll think about it less. The other side is that the blow if it doesn't work again is really big. But well, then we have "the day" with so many lovely people around us..
What to do!!? Does anyone have experience with starting a new (IUI/IVF) attempt directly after a miscarriage?
