Wish for a second child after a C-section

Help, I'm really struggling with this... We got pregnant quickly (3 months) with the first one, and now we have a 2-year-old daughter (born via emergency C-section). We've been trying for a second child for a year now, unfortunately without success. It's hard for me to wait every month, and it's such a disappointment every time I get my period. I sometimes wonder how long I can keep this up? It currently takes up a big part of my life because we're so focused on it.

We've tried several things: ovulation tests, vitamin supplements, giving up coffee, eating healthily, etc. What else can I, or we, do?

You can't do anything anymore. If you've used ovulation tests, you'll know roughly whether the luteal phase is long enough. If it is, you can only have sex at the right times. This was also the case here. First baby round 1. Second baby round 13. Third baby round 1.

    Hi Denise,

I think you're doing everything right.

May I ask a question? Can a C-section make it harder to get pregnant with the next one? I'm wondering this because you mentioned it in your title.

I’d also suggest getting checked for adhesions. A friend of mine had trouble getting pregnant after her C-section and it turned out she had adhesions. They were surgically removed and then it worked. It’s always worth trying! That way you can rule everything out. Hopefully you’ll get a positive test soon. It took us two years for our first two, and now almost a year in total plus two miscarriages, so we really understand how tough that can be. Good luck!

Thanks for your kind replies. Unfortunately, I got my period again this morning (something I kind of expected, but you still secretly hope it’s a success...). So this is a pretty big disappointment, I feel like crap right now. Patience is being tested quite a bit..... sigh.

@deb95 how did your friend find out that she had adhesions? Did she notice it herself, or through the GP? What tests do you get for that?
I read online that you first have to try on your own for 1 year before you can go to the GP. But after a C-section, you're also advised to wait 1 year. Suppose it happens pretty quickly after that, there's already a gap of 3 years between the kids. Our wish (maybe quite selfish and naive) was actually about 2 years between the children. Now I've found out that that's absolutely no longer feasible for us, I'm trying to let go of that and hope that we'll get a second one someday.
