Solveig or Solvej

Hi hi!

I don't have any special associations with the name. I think it's quite a unique name, never heard of it before, but it sounds lovely!
I just find the pronunciation/spelling quite difficult. I think your child will have to spell their name or clarify the pronunciation their whole life. That's something to think about.

I think Solvej is probably the closest to the correct pronunciation.

Good luck!

If you want the name to be pronounced in Danish, I'd go with the spelling Solvej. From experience, I know that the name is often pronounced in a Dutch way. I only get nice reactions to it, and yeah, you do have to spell it out often, but that gets easier!

Solveigh with an h looks nicer to me...

Solveigh. With a j at the end, one might think it's a Polish name instead of Danish

Yeah, I’ve had to spell my Norwegian name a lot, but I don’t mind. You always have a nice story to go with it, from the Peer Gynt Suite by Grieg. There’s also some beautiful mystical music from Norway. It just sticks with you.

Solveig! Beautiful name! Just stick with the Danish spelling.

I’d go for Solveig myself, also because vej means 'road' in Danish, so to me it kind of sounds like a street name. Solveig, on the other hand, sounds a bit more international. I chose to give my daughter Mae as her middle name instead of Maj, so it’s a bit easier to pronounce abroad.

Just do it in Danish! It's your heritage, so to me it's nonsense to 'Dutchify' it. It's not a Dutch name anyway, so I think the original spelling looks the best.
    Nice name too!

Funny, we're also going for that name for our daughter, but with the Dutch spelling Solveij, pronounced exactly as it's written 'sol-vij'.

I only knew him as Solveig. Nice name, by the way!

I'd just go with Solveig, I think it's a beautiful name.
I've been watching the Danish series The Legacy and there's a character named Solveig in it, which is why I did a quick Google search on the name.
If there's one thing I don't like, it's when foreign names are spelled phonetically. So you just explain a few times how the name is spelled and pronounced, and people you interact with often will get it eventually.
