long luteal phase

KimGuest ·
Has anyone experienced a long luteal phase? My cycles average 32 days (the last two were 36/37 days), but my ovulation is always on day 14 or 15. So it's often 20 days of waiting... Does anyone know when implantation happens then?

I actually asked this question to my fertility doctor this week. A longer luteal phase isn't a problem. A fertilized egg typically takes about 5 to 6 days to travel from your fallopian tubes to your uterus and implant there. So you need at least 7 days after ovulation; anything longer is just a bonus. So, to briefly answer your question, implantation would happen around day 5 or 6 after ovulation, just like for everyone else.

    Thanks for the clarification!

Oh, and can you then test around the expected period? Or could this be 14 dpo?????

@ Kim. Technically speaking, it's possible that you could get a positive test before your expected period. But I'd personally just wait for your expected period—it gives you more clarity. I see this happen a lot: people test early (no matter how many days past ovulation they are) and end up disappointed. I mean, they get a positive test but then still get their period (technically that's a very early miscarriage, but whatever). For your mental well-being, they recommend waiting for your expected period.
