What can your baby already do?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering what your babies can/could do at 4 months. Sometimes I think our little girl doesn't do much, but maybe I'm mistaken. She can hold her head up, but when she's sitting, it often tips forward. She has rolled from back to tummy once and more often from tummy to back. She turns more often on her side, but as far as turning onto her tummy goes, it's only happened once. But I've heard that some kids can sit independently at 4 months?

Don't worry. Mine isn't even rolling onto her tummy and back yet. My first didn't do that either at 3.5 months. Try not to focus too much on what they should be able to do. Every child is different.

Let go of the development stuff and enjoy it! These are unnecessary worries. I totally get you. If I told you what my youngest two could do at 4 months, you'd freak out. They can physically do way more than other kids their age. But on the flip side, they have serious speech and language delays. I never worried about that, and I'm not going to now. There's nothing else you can do except encourage them.

And don't let your baby sit too much; their back and neck aren't strong enough for that yet.

Okay, thanks for the replies, ladies. I'm trying to let it go a bit. I was also quite sluggish physically myself... So maybe she got that from me.
On the other hand, she babbles a lot and sometimes holds her bottle independently. She seems to understand a lot and really responds to us. Sometimes I hear "mama" or "ma" in her babbling, but she's obviously saying it unconsciously.

Haha, my son is almost 14 months old and doesn't respond to his name... so yeah, please don't make fun of me.

4 months, well, turning over is already quite an achievement. I’d expect sitting up independently around 6 or 7 months and not to worry about it then. Just let things unfold naturally. It’ll come. My child was already walking along the tables at 8 months, but only truly without support at 15 months. Everything happens in its own time. But at 4 months, I’d say just enjoy what your baby can already do.

Oh, that's totally normal, they're only 4 months old! They don't need to do more than that yet. It can suddenly speed up from around 7 or 8 months. Be patient!
