Baby just wants to breastfeed all the time

My son is almost 3 weeks old. For the past few days, he's been restless all night long. He just wants to suck and nibble. I'm breastfeeding, so I keep putting him to the breast to calm him down. As soon as I try to lay him down in his crib or remove the nipple, he starts crying again. Nothing helps except the nipple. If I could just sleep through it, it wouldn't be such a big deal, but I don't get any sleep at night. Has anyone else experienced this? Or does anyone have tips? I have a Difrax pacifier at home, but he won't use it....

First of all, congratulations. Around that time, they have a growth spurt. Then they want to suck/drink a lot. That lasts for a few days. Napping during the day helps a lot.

Thank you! Okay... not much we can do about it then. He also gained 560 grams in just one week. I already thought that was a lot, but that’s probably related to that growth spurt. No experience with pacifiers?

Offering your finger or a pacifier when you're sure he's just sucking and not hungry.

Pacifiers, there was quite a selection here When she was little, she was crazy about the Philips Avent ones, where you can also use your pinky. Those helped her super. After that, she only wanted round pacifiers and was done with the others; she ended up with the Etos house brand, which tilts to one side, you know. There are so many differences, round or flat on one side, length, etc. We had to search a bit with our daughter too; with her, it was really about sucking need. She didn't drink but just gnawed, which I found to be a very annoying ticklish feeling.

My little boy also came on really quickly during growth spurts—they drain you dry. Then you refill, and they’re empty again in no time. My little boy refused pacifiers. He only wanted the breast. He also refused bottle feeding (he wouldn’t drink even if it was pumped. It really lasts a few days. Then he wants to lie close to you. And that’s how it is every month.

At our place, one of our pinkies helped him by offering his own thumb. He wouldn't hold onto the pacifier, no matter which brand we tried.
The downside of using his own thumb: he's almost 3 now, and I still have to nag him to take his thumb out of his mouth when he's tired.

So relatable... My niece had exactly the same thing in those first weeks. What helped her was creating a calm atmosphere with icons and soft lighting. Maybe this site with calming images will help: https://icon.in.ua/

Groesperiodes are indeed intense, that breast just keeps asking. I understand you'll miss that little thumb, it's such a familiar thing for him. I also chose breastfeeding, that felt the most comfortable. I did check if the GP or the child health center had tips for the transition, that can be reassuring.
