Negative test - still pregnant?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to keep this short to explain what's going on. I've been trying to conceive for 2-3 months. On Jan 18, I had some brown spotting when I peed, and I thought my period followed shortly after. It was mostly brown blood, and it was almost gone after 2.5 days (normally it lasts 4-5 days). I also had a lot of lower back pain, which isn't usual for me.

Now, two weeks later, I've had morning sickness for a few days. I wake up often at night and feel nauseous then too. It gets better once I eat something. I'm quite tired and sometimes get quite bad headaches. Almost right after what I thought was my period, my bra barely fit over my breasts anymore; they suddenly looked much bigger. I also have no appetite for coffee anymore, and I'm really a coffee addict.

I just did an Action test, and it was negative, but I forgot to put the cap back on. I also think I picked up the test too quickly. I don't know if that matters. Do you think it's useful to take another test? My gut feeling says I'm almost certainly pregnant, so getting a negative result like that is quite a letdown. Should I test again with another X, or just let it go?

Testing again won't hurt. But it probably isn't the cap or the handle. If you have hCG in your urine, a second line appears, meaning you're pregnant.

Did you also stop the pill 3 months ago? Because then your body also needs to "un-pill." That your period is shorter than usual doesn't necessarily mean much. I was even on my period for just 3 days with positive pregnancy tests, and I had lost the baby.

I get your frustration. It feels so weird that the test is negative when your symptoms match pregnancy. Maybe it's just a late cycle or a hormone spike. I'd just take another test; those from the pharmacy are reliable. If it doesn't work out or you get more pain, give your GP a call. Sometimes you just need to be patient.
