Embarrassing question

Hi! I almost don't dare to ask, but I'm a bit worried. It's quite embarrassing: I noticed it last time already but thought maybe it just looks like that, but now my partner just said it too... my inner labia really look stretched out… They're really many times larger than the outer ones.
Is this normal during pregnancy? And if so, will this go away? It really doesn't look good…
I'm currently 26 weeks pregnant.

It's normal. Your vagina is now much better blood-flowed, which makes them thicker.
I had that too while I normally don't have visible inner labia. Now after the birth, the swelling is gone again.

Yes, completely normal. Indeed, your vagina is better blood-supplied, hence the swelling. It will go away after the birth!

Hihi, funny that you guys dare to talk about this! Also nice, I have exactly that. I noticed it in the shower and while peeing that I was seeing my inner labia better and better, it really stood out to me. Didn't know it was like that for others too, quite a relief! Do you guys normally not have your inner labia peeking out a bit? I mean, before pregnancy? And did your vagina go back to normal after giving birth or was it different?

Hihi, I don't want to discourage you or anything, but your vagina does change after childbirth. I didn't have that issue with protruding or swollen labia before, during, or after pregnancy The only thing I can say is that things are a bit more stretched out.. Not extremely, but you do notice it during sex. I also had an episiotomy, which you can hardly see anymore now, almost two years after my delivery, but I can still feel the scar tissue with my fingers. I don't have any issues with it during sex.

Hi Tucky! Oh, that's nice, hehe! I'm feeling a bit discouraged now, but there's no turning back, hehe!! Is it very painful to get the stitches removed, or do you not feel it because of the adrenaline? And after? And when you say stretched, do you mean the opening of your vagina or the whole thing? Does your husband really notice a difference now? Is sex less enjoyable?

If you have a C-section, you don't have any pain down there :-) hahahaha .. yeah ok.. 3 to 4 weeks can be hard to get up or pain when laughing.. but you probably have that too if you've been stitched.. I wouldn't want anything else, such a beautiful experience and everything intact from below.. hahahahha

Hey Milou, you won't even notice the episiotomy. They do it at the peak of a contraction, so you don't feel it Just remember they said "I'm going to numb you," which they did, and then they cut right in the middle of a contraction. My daughter was born shortly after, and the cliché is really true: as soon as your little one is here, all the pain disappears in an instant! The stitches from the cut usually come out pretty quickly, after about 5 days. Even though it was still red and bruised back then, it didn't hurt anymore once the stitches were out. While they were still in, it did hurt a bit, but that was because everything was swollen and under tension from the stitches.

Your friend will probably also notice that you're a bit wider down there after giving birth but honestly, I don't mind it myself.

And as Marly already said; it's a really beautiful experience, and when it's all over, you'll feel it was all worth it

That's totally right, Tucky. I only found out after giving birth that I had a tear! Did you also notice during pregnancy that your labia were swollen and what Milou describes? Those stitches from the tear are a bit painful, but nothing compares to holding your little one in your arms!! And they heal up quickly, so we didn't notice anything during sex!

Did you also have more discharge after giving birth than before? It really stands out to me.

Milou, is your pregnancy going well? Exciting, the first one!

No, I didn’t have swollen labia I have to say I was really lucky in that regard. I basically had almost no symptoms apart from a big belly Only in the first few weeks did I have terrible sore breasts and fatigue. I could fall asleep anywhere and sometimes just dropped off mid-day.

After the pregnancy, I actually have less discharge. Before that, I had really bad discharge; I had an abundance of it all month long. Now it’s only around my fertile window, and even then it’s less than before. Previously, my underwear was damp or even wet every day (sorry for the details hihi), and luckily I don’t have that anymore. I could really feel ashamed of that. I can also feel my ovulation now, something I couldn’t do before the pregnancy.

Hi Tucky, so it's really different for you too compared to before your pregnancy? Same here!

I also had a tear, little one, but you really don't feel anything from it. I'm not really familiar with swollen or stretched lips like the ones mentioned above. By the way, has anyone given birth without a tear?
  11. Puck #12

I also had a tear. Didn't feel the anesthesia, didn't feel the tear either but did hear it. Afterward, it healed up pretty well and you can still see a scar, but after a few months, I barely noticed it anymore. At first, it was a bit sensitive during sex, but now it's no problem.
I wasn't aware that things would stretch out a bit, so I didn't notice any difference. Just quickly checked with my husband and he says it might be slightly different but not by much. Nothing to worry about.
  12. Mereltje #13

Hihi, checked with your man, so funny! So he feels something different? I asked mine (funny!!) and he said he didn't feel any difference, only that I'm wetter now, he says. I don't notice it myself, but he'll feel it, hihi!
  13. kruimel #14

Glad that you guys don't feel any difference, but I can tell you it's different for me after 2 kids hahaha

Some positions we both feel nothing, and he's not exactly small, shall we say

(2x natural birth, no episiotomy, but at least some tearing and stitches)

No heartburn during the pregnancies though, but afterwards...
  14. Elle Guest #15

Oh really, crumbs! Which positions do you notice no difference in? And doesn't it help to train your pelvic floor muscles? Is your vagina really that different now, and wasn't it like that after the first one?
  15. kruimel #16

Can't remember if it was like this after the first one too, but definitely now after the second!

Missionary and cowgirl, for example, don't feel so great to us.
Not sure if training pelvic floor muscles helps a lot. I had quite some trouble with pelvic "instability" during my pregnancies, so maybe that's related. It doesn't bother us further, we're just a bit more creative

That's nice, Kruimeltje! And it's so honest of your man to say that! I can imagine there are men who don't dare to say it, but only tell their wives they feel good or something!
  17. kruimel #18

Oh, we just have a good laugh about it, even during 'the' moment itself

    Honesty lasts the longest!
  18. Mereltje #19

That’s how it is, little crumb! You wanted to have a child together after all, and it’s normal that this brings some physical changes; the vagina might be looser/different, breasts might sag a bit, hehe!
  19. Mereltje #20

How did your breasts handle the pregnancies/breastfeeding?
