Only becoming a mother - KID

Hello ladies,
I've been wanting to have a child for a while now, unfortunately my relationship ended some time ago. Now I'd like to become a mother on my own through a donor from the sperm bank.
Does anyone have experience with KID and what's a nice hospital for this? How long did you all wait on the waiting list approximately?

It seems really tough to face it all alone... With two of you, you have each other. I definitely need my husband badly during pregnancy and parenting!

    Hi mama86,

I also got pregnant through KID. I did it at the UMC in Utrecht. The waiting time is at least a year, which is quite long, but I found it a pleasant hospital and always received such kind help there. My daughter is now almost 8 months old. I'm raising her on my own, but I have a lot of support from my family. It's really going fantastically, and I'm so glad I did this. You can do more than you think!

Hi, I'm also a single parent (just posted a message in the topic NOd Feb.). I'm also trying to get pregnant using a known donor, but with help from the hospital.

    Hi mama86,
My wife also got pregnant through KID. We had our treatments at Rijnstate. Unfortunately, we were on the waiting list for almost 2 years. But the hospital is really great. Friendly people and very relaxed. We went through the KID process together because we're two women. But if I had been alone, I would have done it too.

    Wishing you lots of success!

Lots of luck! Hopefully, the waiting list isn't too long. I'm also becoming a single mom, but from a gay friend where our daughter spends one day a week. I got pregnant through self-insemination. So a completely different setup that I chose because I wanted my child to have an involved father. But that's really what feels best for everyone, no matter what setup you choose.

I've heard of a sperm bank in the Netherlands with a shorter waiting list, but only if you also contribute something, like eggs. Or maybe shorter waiting times abroad? Or that sperm bank in Scandinavia?

Thanks for your replies! It's nice to hear that you've had good experiences.
I'm afraid the waiting lists are indeed long. At the moment, I'm still willing to wait, otherwise the Danish sperm bank would indeed be an option. Has anyone had experience with that?

No experience with it. I've heard it's quite expensive. But the advantage is that you get seen very quickly. The downside is that it's completely anonymous. Well, I find that a downside.

Super brave of you all... I'm a mom of 2 boys and happily married to the sweetest man there is. But I've always said I'd go through fire to make my wish for a child come true. Good luck to you all xxx
