My experience, pregnant with #3 so I can pretty much call myself an expert:

It gets worse. A lot. A lot. Worse.. than the hysterical hormone rollercoaster, you also get nausea waves, constipation, hemorrhoids, vaginal yeast infections, pimples, exhausting fatigue, and back, ligament, and pelvic pain. One or more of these, or just all of them. At the same time. Very nice.

And then (midway through trimester 2) it gets better and you're happy and floating on that pink cloud, and before you know it you're pregnant with #2 and the complaining starts all over again. But yeah, those hormones make you forget everything.

I've reached a point in this 3rd pregnancy where I thought "if something goes wrong now, I really never want to get pregnant again." Not that I hoped for a miscarriage- quite the opposite- but I felt so miserable. Now I'm at a point where I don't rule out a 4th.. I think if I bring that up with my partner he'll sprint to the hospital to get a triple knot tied..

And who knows, maybe you'll step onto your pink cloud before/during/after that first ultrasound and float through those 9 months without any problems.. you just don't know! But symptom-free pregnancies are rare, even though it always feels like you're the only one with your ailments.

That emotional stuff never really goes away. Sad commercials will always be there to make you cry, the only difference is that later you won't blame your man/partner for it.

Children make you vulnerable, even if they're still as small as a grain of rice.

Good luck with everything!

What a lovely and honest post. I can't really join the conversation yet, but I wanted to respond anyway because I think you write really nicely.

I really struggled with the hormones too, I found being pregnant hell. But what I really want to tell you is that it says nothing about the love for your child or what kind of mother you'll become. I love my daughter (almost 1) incredibly much, but the pregnancy was hell and the guilt about that and not "enjoying" it was also tough.
From me, a big hug. Unfortunately, it's a grind, but dare to be honest about it and break the taboo around not enjoying your pregnancy, and you'll see that more women secretly share this experience with you.
P.S. You're doing super, hang in there mom-to-be

    Anonymous was I
Of course it doesn't have to be anonymous, this isn't a secret. Being pregnant can be very heavy, physically but also mentally.

Oh my goodness, this is so relatable??? You wrote everything so honestly and openly. I want to wish you congratulations on your pregnancy first of all!! Secondly, you're so lucky that your husband is open to it and doesn't say anything snide, for example... here it's the opposite. I'm also on an enormous hormonal rollercoaster and my husband just can't handle it. I try not to overwhelm him with my hormones, so my poor little mother-in-law usually gets all that hormone stuff thrown at her moms are the best thing that can happen to you. My mom understands me so incredibly well that she's always there for me. Even when I call her crying to tell her how irritating and how stupid my husband can be sometimes we talk about how stupid men can be and always end the conversation laughing hysterically and saying silly things about my dad and my husband. Hahaha that's so fun. I feel so much better then. When I see my husband then I burst out laughing and think 'oh my darling, you had no idea what we've been talking about behind your back'

Oh, those hormones are the result of a very special event. This is my second pregnancy and based on my experience from the first one, I've become more emotional after giving birth. That was about 5 years ago. Now with this pregnancy, there's an extra layer on top of that. On top of that, the symptoms you have/get like nausea and that kind of stuff make it not easy at all. Anyway, you can let off steam here. That's also quite something. I'd also wish you lots of success and let us know from time to time how you're doing

    Best wishes

Haha amazing!!! This is being pregnant! I’m one of the lucky ones who found my pink cloud after 16 weeks... wish you lots of success xxx

I really had a lovely pregnancy. Exactly by the book. Nauseous until week 12. The last trimester was very tiring, during the heatwave. But I was really proud to be pregnant for 9 months straight. I even miss it a little bit.

After giving birth, I only got emotional, which really lasted for a few weeks. At one point, I said crying to my partner: I'm so mean to you and I don't mean it at all. Luckily, the postpartum care had already warned him.

I hope with all my heart that better times are coming. For you, but also for your husband. And please keep writing, I had a great time. Haha, sorry!

Hahahaha brilliant post! Very relatable for me. Not so much in an emotional sense but more in terms of “being sick”. I’ve been throwing up and feeling nauseous since week 6, and heartburn keeps me from sleeping. Once I finally fall asleep, it feels like I’m in a coma : I can’t even open my eyes anymore. I’m completely drained! I’m still vomiting (every morning) even though I’m now 16w+3 days pregnant. It’s really tough for me, and I hope there will be a period where I can start enjoying it!!

Haha, blissful!!!! Finally the truth about being pregnant. Yes, yep, I know it all too... I often scream my head off here for the smallest things. Luckily my husband tolerates it. Even when I say I want to divorce because he breathes annoyingly! Hahaha I've also lost any shame about giving my unfiltered opinion, even to strangers. And yep... I can't watch the news anymore because it makes me incredibly sad. Are you about 6 weeks now? Hopefully the ailments don't hit too hard and you won't spend the coming weeks permanently with your head in the toilet bowl, hoping to finally get something out after liters of prune juice... From experience: I enjoyed my previous pregnancy from week 20 to week 25. After that, the other ailments started again... Heartburn, fluid retention, discomfort from the big belly. And after the birth, I found it even worse... Felt like I'd been in a serious accident, didn't recognize what was what down there, and oh, that baby blues... But it gets better and look... I'm now pregnant with a second... So it's worth going through all this!

I mainly felt "deceived" regarding the birth, because everyone said "the moment you have that baby in your arms, all the pain disappears." That was totally not the case for me, and I felt very guilty and bad about it for a long time. I had a long and difficult labor and I was just completely exhausted... While I had the baby in my arms, they stitched me back up, including my intestines because everything had torn open. And then they had to induce contractions again because I was bleeding abnormally. I just wanted everyone to leave me alone so I could sleep. I was in so much pain and so exhausted that I could barely focus on the baby. And I still feel terrible about it. It wasn't until I was on my room alone with her that love hit me like a ton of bricks and I realized I was a mother.
