Hey..
What do you think of the name Bardot for a girl? I really like it, but my partner is having doubts..
Pronounced in French!

You don't hear him very often. I like him.

Nice! I initially thought of a boy, but it's also lovely for a girl. Really lovely, super original!

    That's a last name...
I actually find it just as bad as (maybe even worse) Morris(son), Jagger, Presley etc.

    Thanks, girls!
I actually quite like Morris, haha. It's funny how tastes always differ.
We haven't decided yet, so comments are still welcome. If a lot of people think it's a boy's name or really doesn't work, I'd love to hear that.
    My second option is: Giselle.

At first I pronounced it as "bar dot"... haha.
The spelling isn't so nice.. maybe Bardeau?

I don't think it's a nice name and I was also thinking of a boy. I do like Giselle!
  7. Jootje #8

Yes, Giselle is really much more feminine.

I just think it's a stupid trend to use surnames as first names...

How do you come up with that... oh, I thought Brigitte Bardot was such a cool person... so I'll name my kid Bardot...

Next thing you know, our son will be called Seedorf, but his nickname will be Seed...

(By the way, in the Netherlands you're not allowed to give a surname as a first name unless it's already used as a first name)

It doesn't sound bad. Doesn't make me think of a boy through Brigitte Bardot. But maybe you should write it differently. As Bardeau. Or another name: Beaudine / Isabeau. Gisèle is also beautiful.

It's not based on the fact that it's a last name or because I'm a fan of a certain person.
I think it's a nice combination in terms of sound/letters.. like a variation on Margot for example.
The fact that people name their child Wolf or Lente is also because they are first-name-like words like Dolf or Jente, but just a little bit different.
That doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the season or animal, right? That's how I see it anyway.

    I don't think it's a beautiful name, sorry.
I also read it as bar-dot like you write it. If you pronounce it the way you want, it sounds like a nice wine, bordeaux.

Nice!!! Super original. The pronunciation was clear to me right away, but not necessarily the gender. But I don't mind that at all.

By the way, Bardot is already quite common in the Netherlands as a first name, so you don't need to worry about it being rejected by the civil registry, as some people above claim.

I think it's super cute, buuuuuuuuuut... I wouldn't like it for the child to have all the time questions/associations about Brigitte Bardot. You're giving that to your child for their whole life.
I'd rather be named Giselle. Good luck!
