Breasts before and after pregnancy

Hi! I’m curious to hear your experiences. We’ve had a lovely little boy for about a year now, and he’s doing well. I recently stopped breastfeeding (started weaning in early September and stopped in October), and I was wondering how your experiences were and how your breasts reacted.

Before I got pregnant, I was a 80D, with fairly firm breasts (in terms of feel, not appearance). During pregnancy, they grew about two cup sizes bigger (I mostly wore nursing bras), and now that I’m done with BF, I can fit back into my old bras, which is a relief. However, I’ve noticed that my breasts seem a bit softer than before the pregnancy. Do you recognize this? Will it change further? I’m curious what you’ve experienced in terms of differences in size and firmness?

And did it stay like that in a next pregnancy, or was it different again? Just curious! Kisses, Miran

I suddenly stopped here. I then deliberately walked around with engorgement to stop as quickly as possible. That was the attack on my breasts; they never became like they were before. But I think that's the case for everyone, that they become a bit looser for everyone.
It's good of you that you were able to breastfeed for so long!

I'm curious too. My daughter still gets 3 bottles a day, but I hope to stop around her first birthday. I'm curious if my breasts will go back to their original size.

Hartje, why did you stop so abruptly and end up with a lot of engorgement? Don't you get inflamed milk ducts or anything like that? I'm afraid of that if I stop later.

It didn't work out with the twins. I thought then I'm done with it too, (very tired when I made that decision haha) I just took off the pressure and massaged the spots well. Indeed, watch out for inflammation.
But I also gave 1.5 liters in a day.
When you stop later, which I did with my son, you'll hardly notice it. He still drank twice a day and also drank from the straw cup. Stopped and noticed nothing, just don't know if your child already drinks something extra?

Spicy, though, 2 feeds. Really impressive that you managed it! Wow, 1.5 liters in one day is a lot.
She's 9 months now, drinks a bit from a sippy cup but it's more like little sips than actual drinking. So she's not getting enough fluids without milk. And she still has 3 months to go before she can have cow's milk.
It's nice to hear that you didn't notice anything with your son when stopping, does it happen very gradually then?

Yeah, he was drinking more and more on his own. If she's really still drinking very little extra, I'd keep offering the breast alongside it for a bit. It's lovely that it works out like this. If you keep offering the other drink casually, it'll eventually replace it.

    Hi girls!

Hartje looks so cute, it's really nice that you were able to do that!
What cup size did you have before pregnancy, during breastfeeding, and after? Did you also notice that they seemed a bit looser? Or is this only temporary?

I would never want to miss the breastfeeding period, but it's also nice to have nice-looking breasts again afterwards!

For my first pregnancy, I was a good B cup. During the first pregnancy, it went up to a small D. After that, I couldn't breastfeed due to circumstances, so they went back down a bit to a C. Half a year later, I was pregnant again, and during that pregnancy and 4 months of breastfeeding, I was a D cup again. After that, they went back down to a C and stayed there. And now, number 2 is almost 2 years old

I'm also breastfeeding now, this is the third time, and with my two oldest, they were also a bit saggy after stopping. That's totally normal because your milk glands filled your breasts more than your fat tissue. Now, the fat tissue needs to come back a bit. But even women who don't breastfeed can experience this. They still stretch during pregnancy. Actually, they'll never be exactly the same as before pregnancy/breastfeeding. But you can strengthen the muscles around your breasts. That also firms them up.

And how did the sizing go for you, Clautje?
  10. Moedertjuh #11

I always had a C cup, but during pregnancies and breastfeeding, I went up to a D cup. After that, back to a C cup.
  11. Merel #12

Same here, Clautjuh! Is it weird, though, like giving birth? Did it go well for you?
  12. Moedertjuh #13

Yeah, the two oldest are long gone, but now my 8-week-old daughter is here too. She's growing like a dream and started breastfeeding right after birth.
